I thought I would mix this up a bit and give you the option of choosing one out of two similar items. I will post the info for each and you decide if you would eat either of these items.

I will tell you that these items are foods that would be considered an occasional treat, not something that would be part of your everyday food plan. The serving sizes are very similar in grams.

Here we go:

Item 1

Calories - 160

Total Fat - 9grams
  Saturated Fat - 3.5grams

Cholesterol - <5mg

Sodium - 130mg

Total Carb - 20grams
  Fiber - 1gram

Protein - 2grams

Item 2

Calories - 120

Total Fat - 6grams
  Saturated Fat - 2grams

Cholesterol - 0mg

Sodium - 80mg

Total Carbohydrate - 16grams
  Fiber - 0grams

Protein - 1gram

I will reveal the items tonight.

Carbs are higher than protein.  But depending on what it is, and since it is a treat, yes I probably would eat both.  They are probably something that I can add to my protein supplement.  Or, half it.  Yes I think I would eaet them both.

As occasional treat maybe. Carbs higer than protein like Melinda mentioned. I probably would not eat this on daily basis.

Like I said, these are something that would not be a part of our daily food plan. These are occasional treats only. I just want to know which one you would choose, if you were going to choose one.

Hey there Susan!

I would eat the second one.  I might eat the first one, too but if I just could have one...it would be the second one.

:)  Does it have sugar in it?

There is sugar and/or sugar alcohol included in the Total Carbs.

Ok I would choose second one because it is lower in calories.

This was kind of a trick that I hope will have everyone looking closer at food labels.

The first item is Murray's Sugar Free Chocolate Chip cookies. The stats are for a serving of 3 cookies (32grams).

The second item is Kroger brand of Chips Ahoy cookies (Chip Mates). The stats there are for 2 cookies (27grams).

The purpose for this comparison is to help everyone realize that just because something is "Sugar Free" does not mean it is any better for our food plan. The Murray's cookies have 7g of sugar alcohol while the Chip Mates have 8g of sugar. The sugar alcohols are just as detrimental to us as sugar.

I have actually noticed several items where the "low fat" or "sugar free" version is actually less healthy than the regular version. I have found that when they reduce the fat they usually add more sugar and when they replace the sugar with artificial sweeteners they add fat. And, they charge more for the low fat/sugar free versions of foods.

I have even compared the labels on some Campbell's soups where the fat grams on the regular and the "low fat" were exactly the same! Guess which soup cost more.

Read your labels folks!!
