Sorry I am so late responding to this but have been studying for some tests. I don't think 30% weight loss for the band is correct. I had the band 30 months ago and have lost 150 lbs. The weight with the band and with RNY averages out about the same in 2 years time.

You need to research, research and research some more before you decide. Each surgery has it's pro's and con's and you have to decide what you can live with. What type of eater are you, do you have time to go for fills, can you life with taking lots of vitamines all the time? Things like this is what you need to answer. What type of eater are you, volume, sweets, etc.... There are lots of things to consider and you need to make the right choice for you!!!

Debra is correct.  The recent research states that over the first year RNY's do lose more weight, because it comes off quicker.  Bands average 1-3 pounds per week in the first 2-3 months then slows down.  But over time (2-5 years out) the average loss is 59% for the RNY and 55% for the Bands.    Do some research, ask these questions to your doctor, he/she will have the latest research information for you.  It will be your decision and no one will ever judge you for your decision.
