It's question time.......
Hi everyone, go****'s been ages since I was able to get online. I can't be out in the heat with my heart problems, and it's senseless to drive around the edge of a fence to the library.
I had a stress test done on Monday as my heart has been pounding too hard, what was to be a 3-4 hour test turned into 8 hours. August 1st I have to have a Heart Cath done at Smyrna, apparently the Dr. found something going on inside my heart and wants to get a better look. This leukemia is starting to mess with my organs and causing my stress level to go up.
Now to the questions:
1) How do you know if you are getting good carbs or bad cards?
2) I am working out every day, two days with physical therapy including water workouts, plus what I am doing at home, yet the excess 25lbs won't go away, and my skin isn't tightening up, what's going on?
3) I see a lot of new faces and names, first off welcome to the greatest board. There was a third question I wanted to ask, now I can't think of it. So when I do, I will write it down so I won't forget. That's another problem with this leukemia, I keep forgetting things, like when a pan is on the hotplate. It's really starting to bug me and I don't like BUGS.
Y'all, I love and miss you so much and I was looking forward to lunch this month, but I didn't wake up until 1pm. That's how it's been for the past month. Say a prayer that I will be able to make it to the August lunch.
May God travel with you,
Kathy

I can respond to number 1. The difference between good carbs and bad carbs is - bad carbs have little to no nutritional value.
Examples of carbs to avoid are the "whites" - white bread, white rice, pasta, white potatoes, pretzels, chips, white flour, cookies, crackers, cream of wheat, grits, etc.
Examples of good carbs are - carrots, corn, green peas, beans & legumes (pinto, kidney, blackeyed, lentils, etc.), lima beans, sweet potato, squash, fruit (fresh is best), dairy (lowfat or fat free milk, cheese, yogurt), whole grains (whole wheat bread, pasta, & cereal such as oatmeal, bulgur wheat, quinoa)
Good carbs contain vitamins and minerals that our bodies need. They are also usually good sources of fiber - think fruits & veggies.
Bad carbs have usually had all or most of the nutritional value processed out of them and/or are loaded with fat & sugar, think cookies, chips, etc.
I was always told that the more colorful the plate, the more nutritional value it usually contained. Nutrition was never my problem. Volume is what made me fat. I just ate too much of the healthy stuff and then added the unhealthy stuff on top of it because it tasted so good.

Thanks Susan. I have always wondered about that, especially when i buy yogart, it's high in carbs and sugar, and it's low fat. Sorry I haven't gotten back to you. It's been too hot for me to walk around the fence that separates the library and my apartment. I have also been so tired, now I know why. It's nothing for me to got to bed before midnight and wake up at 6pm the next evening. Everytime I try and relax, I'm out for at least 6 hours for just a nap.
Thanks again for your help. Love ya

Just make sure you are getting the Splenda sweetened yogurt. The carbs in dairy products are from lactose. The body uses lactose differently than it does other sugars.
Regular white sugar, brown sugar, molasses, honey, fruit sugars, tree sugars (maple syrup), etc. really have very little nutritional value. The lactose sugars in dairy products have some nutritional value. Plus, dairy products are generally good sources of protein so that keeps the blood sugar levels from going up as high and then crashing like it does with regular sugary items.
Hopefully this hot spell will break like they are predicting and you will be able to get out more. Autumn is just around the corner!
