Coffee and Protein???

I've heard someone talk about this recently and have seen it posted on the board before. Can someone refresh my memory. How do I add protein powder to coffee and it not get lumpy?  Seeing as I have this new love of things coffee'ish, I've decided maybe that's the best way to get in protein. I'm struggling ya'll... help a girl out!

Also, who mixes protein powder with yogurt?  How'd that work for ya? Dr. Hottie sent back word through the nutritionist that if I can't get the whole eating thing under control that I will be back in the hospital.  Now, don't get me wrong.  He's cute and all but I'm not trying to see him like that LOL Besides, he gave me a verbal butt whoopin' like no other the last time. I know a lot of my fatigue lately is due to not getting enough protein.

I never in my life would have thought that I wouldn't want to eat.  Who knew?  When I say I struggle, that's putting it mildly.  The nutritionist asked me if they would let me eat other things, what would I want.  So, I was like OK let me be more clear. Nothing! Food is a big ole pain in the rear end!

Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming...

Mornin friend!  I got the pictures and will work on them this afternoon!  As for coffee and protein, let me tell ya about it.

I have a protein/coffee drink every morn before going to work t the Depot.  Here is the recipe I use, courtesy of Susan J.

1 scoop Nectar Cappuccino
1 T of DaVinci French Vanilla
1-2 T of cold coffee
1 T Benefiber

Mix this together in Magic Bullet or with a shaker cup.  I then pour into my coffee cup using a spoon to strain some of the foam.  Top off the cup with hot coffee, and then sprinkle a little cinnamon of top!

As far as the flavorings go, you can use whatever you would like.  I have tried Cinnamon Dolce, Caramel, Hazelnut, Mocha, Kahlua...the skys the limit!

Yum!  What a way to start the day! 23 grams of protein in one cup.  Hope you enjoy!

Chandra,
Scott's idea sounds great!  I have taken a scoop of protein powder, and about 1-2 T of water and made into a paste, then slowly added the hot coffee to it.  Its not perfect, but better than just trying to stir in protein powder.  About the yogurt, I put a scoop of Nectar Fuzzy Navel in my peach yogurt all the time.  I pour the yogurt into a bowl, and slowly stir in the yogurt.  Hope this helps!

The trick to it is the paste.  Susan had to show me too... I couldn't seem to get the paste right.  But just stir stir stir and ma**** into the side of the cup as you stir...  when you see the lumps going down, keep on stirring! lol

Did I mention stir?

I have a new addiction.

1/2 matrix chocolate pro scoop

1/2 nectar cappuccino OR whey gourmet arctic frappe

these two are great together

GET THAT PROTEIN IN GIRL! As much as I like Dr. H, I dont want to go see him either. Caues that means sumthin is wrong.

Scott that sounds wonderful! I have stirred unflavored protein into yogurt. Mine left a nasty aftertaste. But as long as you are using one you like, I don't see a problem with it.

Off topic, but I had to click and find out what all this Dr Hottie was all about. Dang he is a hottie!

Hi first make sure your journaling everything this way at the end of the day if you come up short on protein or liquid you can make up the difference before calling it a night. The Jell-O made from 42g protein bullets is good Debbie pours it into 1/2 cup portions (throw away glad cups) that gives me 21g per serving. You make it like normal SF jell-o shes not here right now but if you need the directions I'll send them to you tonight. Also I've made my Decaf Coffee like normal but then added EAS shake to it Chocolate or French Vanilla it does it clump taste good but you don't get the high protein level you will with Scott's about 8.5g per cup. Keep some of the protein bullets on hand 42g in 3.5oz not the greatest tasting but its only 3.5 oz's? I've been buying the Greek Yogurt its way higher in protein then normal, usually 15g of protein, 5g sugar, 90 cal.. You really got to get the protein in it's something you have to do unless you really enjoy hospital food and IV's! If you don't expect a great deal of hair loss, teeth, and skin problems and you will stall your weightloss. So when you do loose your weight you will have gone from pretty and plump to skinny and looking like a toothless troll if it doesn't kill you first! Just being blunt but your orgains need protein to survive. Get-Ur-Done or Get-A-Boot (in the backside) C'ya Bob

When I have the coffee urge, I mix 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder, 2 teaspoons of sugar free decaf french vanilla cappucino powder, 1 tbp.benefiber and just a dash of sf Davinci vanilla syrup and make a paste.  Then I add decaf coffee.  I always use a 10-12 oz mug.  I usually have 2 of these on the occasional weekend.  The stats are about 150 calories, 3.5g fat, 5g carb, 1g sugar and 24g of protein for both cups.  Not to mention 20-24 ounces of fluid.

I mix 1/2 scoop Banana Cream protein powder with Carbsmart  vanilla yogurt.  Powder is 10g protein while the yogurt is 12g protein.  Tastes just like banana pudding.  I eat it everyday for breakfast!  I've also done vanilla powder with peach yogurt.  I've got to try the fuzzy navel nectar in the peach yogurt.  Sounds yummy.  The fuzzy navel nectar is my new favorite right now.

I know it's hard but you have to make yourself eat, drink and exercise.  I would hate to see you have to go back to hospital.

Take care and good luck finding something you like.

The trick to mixing protein powder with anything hot is to make that paste first using the protein powder and cold liquid. Sometimes I use a little water, other times it is SF Da Vinci syrup or milk. Once you have the paste stirred smooth add hot liquid, coffee or water, that is no hotter than what comes out of a drip coffee maker. If the liquid is boiling hot it will curdle even with the paste.

I start every morning with a homemade protein latte.

3 shots espresso
1 scoop Cappuccino nectar
6 - 8 oz milk, skim or soy
Splenda to taste

I use a small amount of the cold milk to make my paste with the PP and Splenda, add the espresso and then the frothed milk and foam. I can do this with one eye open.

Try adding part of a scoop of PP to your yogurt. Usually a full scoop is too much for a 4 - 6 oz cup of yogurt. Just stir, stir, stir until it is mixed smooth. You can put it in the small cup of the bullet if you wish...and have a bullet. LOL

Chondra,
I know exactly where you are coming from 'cause I've been there and gotten the verbal beating from Dr. H myself for not getting my protein in! I spent a few days in the hospital too when I was about 5 weeks out.

I use the Carb Master Yogurt from Kroger (12gms protein) plus a scoop of Matrix protein (@20 gms). This will give you at least half your protein for the day.  If you use the chocolate protein and the strawberry yogurt it tastes like a chocolate covered strawberry. You can mix vanilla protein with the peach and it's not bad. Right now, I only have the cookies and cream protein from Matrix and I mix it with all my yogurt. It's an acquired taste and you use what ever works.

You can take the Isopure protein drink and make Jello with it.

It is hard especially if you don't feel like eating or drinking but get it in the best way you know how and you will feel so much better. I'm 16 months out and still have problems sometimes getting it in. Find something you like and eat it 3 times a day if you have to just to get over this hump!!!!

Good luck!
Janie

You can add Myoplex (or other pre-mixed) Protein to your coffee. It comes in chocolate and french vanilla and tastes good, if ya like fu-fu type coffee.

Also, make sugar-free jello and substitute a Protein Bullet for some of the water. That gives ya 42 grams of protein for the entire bowl.
