I am just getting started and have my 1st visit with the NUT next week.  I have had my first visit with the Dr. and am trying to get myself on the downslide.   I have been on so many different programs before....BLA BLA BLA......I know you all have heard this 100 times already.  The problem is that I know that I need to get started NOW.  For some reason, I am having a harder time getting started now than ever before.  I don't know if it is because I know that this is really IT and I want to hold on to the old ways as long as possible?   The bottom line is that I am not stupid.   I am pretty smart and I know better!   Any suggestions to help me get the boost I need to get started.  I know that once I give myself about a week it will be all better, but I swear I am starving all the time.  I am diabetic too and I know that that contributes to my cravings.   It seems to be the old foe.......carbs, carbs, carbs.    .......

I really would appreciate any suggestions that any of you have on how to get a jump start .....I am determined to make this the LAST of my yo-yo, self destructive eating habits..   Out with the old and in with the new......but HOW?   PLEASE HELP?

I feel like a whiner, but I relly am serious.  I am having BIG trouble right now.

You sound like I did last year......whine and getting mad at myself about not making the decision to get started.  The deciding factor was a trip with my family to the beach last year and all the medications I took.  I hated the meds and didn't like what I saw at the beach!!
Find a motivator---a picture at your heaviest and post it on the refrigerator.......something to remind you that you are going to correct old habits and replace them with new ones.

1.Just set a day, get rid of the extra carbs in your home that suck you in on a daily basis.
2.Be true to yourself and write down everything that crosses your lips.
3.Drink lots of water (nothing bu****er was my rule)
4. and walk....Start slowly, a 15 minute walk then increase the speed, when you tolerate the speed then increase the distance.
I found it really helped to get my PCP on board early by telling her my plan, weighing at the office also gives you a record of the efforts you are making.
You can do this, if you are committed to yourself and improving your health.   It is the best thing I have ever done for ME!!!   That is the key.........YOURSELF.....putting yourself first.
Good luck and let me know if you need anything along the way.
Welcome to the TN board, lots of help can be found here.

Thank you so much for the inspriation and encouragement.  I am really trying to turn the corner.  I have been on every diet imaginable.   Diet Coke and Carbs....these are the issues that I am having the most trouble with now.   I tell myself every morning that I am not going to do this and every evening I am having to beat myself up and tell myself that I'll start all over in the morning.  Don't get me wrong, I am not just stuffing my face.....I am eating less, but just not totally off the bread.

I have my mother living with me after a serious stroke last year.  I have to cook for her and make sure she eats properly.   Properly for her is not always properly for me.   Right now I have all the bread out of the house.   I know I'll have to get some more eventually to feed her, but right now, we are just going to have to find an alturnative for her.   Like you said.....I am trying to put me first.  Its not as easy as it sounds.

Thank God for the support of a good husband.

Thanks again!

Your Nut will have some good sugestions. Mine wanted me to lose 20 before the surgery.
She gave me a 1200 cal diet.

I had 6 meals a day.
Each one had to be 200 cal or under.
She also gave me a list already made out of the frozen entrees that qualified.

My favorite is the Kroger Sugarfree instant breakfast mixed with milk, zoom it up in the bullet blender and I have a yummy chocolate mil****e . Best thing is I can have it 6 times a day IF I want :)

My hubby is diabetic. The carbs realy do mess up the sugar level. As you know not all carbs are created equal :).

The best trick for us was to have alternatives on hand.

His trick with the Diet soda is to pour it into a very large cup filled with lots of ice. Not to drink it from the can. You get some water in that way.
I am trying to get him to the Caffine Free version...I think that will help to take some of the craving for it away.

We have a lot of brocolli and cheese, and green beans, and salad with various meat and cheese toppings, there is even a way to make calliflower into  potatoes (swear its delicious!)
you can mash them and you can add all the toppings :)

We switched to whole wheat bread. If we eat at a fast food place we make the burger open face by taking off the bun on top (messy but still good Lol)

there is also a website Active Low Carber
http://forum.lowcarber.org/index.php?
They have lots of recipes and encouraging photos and topics

Good Luck!

I just scared myself into taking the pre-op diet very seriously.  I mean, the reason that you need to lose that weight is to shrink your liver before surgery.  If you don't do it, the chances of complications are higher.  I didn't want them to accidentally nick my liver so every time I was hungry, I just told myself, "Think how small your liver is getting!!" haha... I know that sounds silly, but it worked for me.  The pre-op diet actually goes by faster than you imagine and I was losing an average of a pound per day so that was exciting, too.

Good luck!  I know you can do it. :)
