I am new to Tennessee and to the internet. I have just gotten my first computer and a friend at work told me about this website. I had my surgery a year and a half ago and I am now interested in plastic surgery to remove all of this extra skin. I have alot of questions.

Has anyone here had plastic surgery? Who is your doctor? How long did you have to be off work? Did you need help after surgery? How long?

I just had my plastics and thus far am very satisfied with my results as long as I can look beyond the swelling that is normal for several months following plastics.  I had a lot more done at one time,11 1/2 hours of surgery, I had the full belt with muscle wall repair, upper inner thigh lift, along with a breast lift with extended cuts into the inner shoulder blade to remove excess skin from my back.  Therefore, with that said I am out of work for 12 weeks and YES help is very much needed after surgery, I would say for at least two weeks.  I used Dr. Brian Tireney at Baptist hospital and he did my surgery at St. Thomas, I would highly suggest using him.  I checked into a few others, but I found that I liked both him and his staff very much, they work with you and treat you like family. Plus, he and his staff will work with your insurance to help you get the coverage you deserve, whereas many will not help you with your insurance and leave it all up to you!!

Good Luck!!

Wow! That is a long time in surgery. I talked to a plastic surgeon before I moved so I know what I need done. He told me he would do a LBL and my arms in one surgery and my thighs and breast reduction & lift in another. He said he could do these surgeries 6 weeks apart but he doesn't want his patients in surgery for more than 6 hours.

I just wondered if there was a surgeon here who would do everything at once. Since you have done almost the same things that I need, do you think I would be okay to add my arms to this? Have you had any problems from being in surgery so long?

My insurance will pay some and I have the money for the rest. My mom would be able to come stay with me to help with my kids and house.

Hey Margie. Welcome to TN and the TN forum.

I am 5 months post-op from my plastics. I had a lower body lift with anchor cut and a hernia repair. I am very pleased with my results.

Have you met with any plastic surgeons? Do you know what you are considering having done?

Edited to add: My surgeon is Lois Wagstrom. I also had muscle repair. The anchor cut is an incision that runs from between my breasts all the way down the midriff and ends in a mons reduction.

My work situation is a bit different since I lost my job 2 weeks before my surgery. I was able to start job hunting 4 weeks after surgery and actually took a 5 week temp assignment that started 6 weeks post-op.

My husband was with me for the first week and his employer had him working reduced hours for the next few weeks. He is a photographer and his boss would send him out for a 2 - 3 hour shoot close to home. This way he was close in case I needed him. I was able to get around a bit more that second week but I still needed help in some areas. By week 3, I was able to do a lot more, I just had to be careful and I was moving a bit slow. I was able to drive after 3 weeks. I was still tender but I could at least drive myself to my doctor appointments.

Let us know if we can help.

Thanks Susan.

How long were you in surgery? I talked to a plastic surgeon before I moved and he said he would only have his patients in surgery for no more than 6 hours. He said he would do a lower body lift and my arms and then 6 weeks later do my thighs and breasts. I need a breast lift & reduction.

I lost about 80 lbs before my bypass surgery and I have lost 130 lbs since surgery so I have alot of extra skin.

My mom can come stay with me to help with my kids so my hubby would not have to take off much time from work.

I was in surgery for 4 1/2 hours and spent 2 nights in the hospital. The second night was due to problems with an elevated heart rate, dizziness and nausea.

I love my plastic surgeon and her staff. She has years of experience working on post WLS patients and comes very highly recommended. I am extremely pleased with my results.

When/if I have my thighs and/or breasts done, I will go back to Dr. Wagstrom.

I had a panniculectomy, fancy word for tummy tuck, aka abdominoplasty.  Basically they took off my tummy skin that hung down past my pubic bone.  Couldn't see any privates down there....  Lord I hadn't seen that area in so many years! I was surprised and embarrassed to finally SEE it!

I also had the muscle repair.  Now if I were to say what I WANTED... well, we'd surely have breast implants on that list!  (I'm still working on the financing for that one).  My doctor is Michael Hueneke.

My former roommate had belt lipectomy and also a face lift.  You can email him if you want, he has pics.  His doctor was Dr. Donald Griffin in Nashville.

Yea I haven't seen my privates in a long time. My tummy skin hangs halfway down my thighs and I always have some kind of stinky rash. I get the same rash under my breasts. It hurts and the cream the doctor gives me only helps for a little while and then it comes back. I don't need any implants. I still need about half of what I have there taken off.

It sounds like there is quite a few doctors to choose from here. Do you know if they all charge the same? Or do I need to visit each of them to see what their price is? Are they all at the same hospital?
