Diet Pills

Has anyone considered and/or taken diet pills while on your two week pre-op diet?  I'm finishing up day 4 and am really getting hungry.  I've been getting in all my fluids and shakes, plus the frozen dinner at night.  I've even had jello.  I think what I'm missing most of all is something to chew on!  I told my husband to watch out because he might wake up one night with me gnawing on his leg!!!  I know the pills won't help with the desire to chew but it would curb the hunger!  Thoughts please! You may want to make sure that they will not interfere with your blod clotting ability or it could delay your surgery or be dangerous if you don't tell the surgeon you have taken them.  I would say no, but call the surgeon's office and ask.  Better to err on the side of safety. darlene

Thanks Darlene.  I hadn't  thought about the issues you mentioned.  Better tell my DH to sleep with one eye open to protect his fingers from his starving wife!!!  They are beginning to resemble french fries

I say you don't even warn him.  People Watching  LOL  The SF popsicles help out cause they give you something to chew.  Maybe try a higher protein shake.  The higher the protein , it usually stays with ya longer, or atleast it does for me.   darlene

Hi Baboo...

Darlene is absolutly right...  No mood altering chemicals allowed in this phase of WLS.... What is it???,, are we going into the last stretch of our years and years of yo-yoing obesity cycle....

Yes, it is tough, and I am going to give that to you sweetie... a matter of fact you will feel like you are crawling over fricking nails that are on fire...

Just look at it as a small price to pay for the life altering experience that lays ahead of you...

Keep your mind busy with such things as what should I pack for the hospital?  Who is going to be wondering around my house while I am in the hospital for 3 days?  Just think, It may be seven days if you have unforeseen complications...LOL...  Okay so you need to work like a month ahead...LOL....you can do it hun.... you can do it.... And for all of you that have OCD...dang, you better get busy now.....LOL...LOL....

I tell you this cause I have been there and many on this board have been there too....  Just breathe......

  We love you hun.....

I would also be concerned about my heart...Wouldn't want any changes in that area just prior to anesthesia...

Thatnk you guys for are all your comments.  I think part of the problem is I've been at a conference all weekend and purchased some Slim Fast I could pack in a cooler.  It wasn't until last night that I saw they had 190 calories and only 10 grams of Protein!!  I should be able to eat the rest of my meals at home using the Bullet Blender until surgery.  I think that will help.  Those shakes have 20 grams of protein. Thanks again. B

You must have gotten the "high protein" Slim Fast. Next time get the Low Carb, it has 20 grams of protein per shake. I keep these on hand for a quick grab & go meal when I need it. You do know that you can have all the broth, SF popsicles, SF jello, and water/Crystal Lite you want? The fluid quota they give you is a minimum. If you feel hungry, drink! Just think of all the good all that fluid is doing for your skin. Proper hydration makes our skin glow. And, the runs to the potty to get rid of it counts towards exercise!! LOL Hang in there. You can do it!

Thanks Susan.  Yes, I did get the wrong Slim Fast.  I'm wondering if I could have 2 shakes instead of one per meal to get them used up since there are only 10 grams of protein per shake?  Yes, I'm drinking lots of Crystal Lite and eating SF jello.  Can't get too excited about the SF popsicles, but by next week I will probably think they are the best thing since sliced bread!  Tonight my DH and I hung a full length mirror at the end of our long hall in hopes of making the hall appear shorter.  He said I could watch myself getting thinner.  I told him it would also be a great motivator this next week and a half.  We haven't had a full length mirror in years and I can't stand seeing myself in it.  So I think any time I get hungry I'm going to stand in front of it and that should give me the resolve I need to stick to the plan.

I would go ahead and drink them up, get rid of them before surgery because after surgery you definately don't want to use them.  You don't have to have two at a meal, but just have another one when the hunger comes back. darlene
