Disappointing weigh in
I had my second month's weigh in today for my 6 month diet. In spite of staying on plan and getting plenty of protein and getting as much exercise as I can do right now, I've only lost 3 pounds this month. It is very discouraging. I feel that if I could do more exercise I could lose faster. I'm not quitting but I'm very frustrated. I guess this is the very thing that helped me decide to pursue surgery. A good effort with very little results. My plan involves staying under 1400 calories and 135 carbs, and getting at least 80 grams of protein per day. I haven't cheated and my choices are even better this month than they were last month. Enough griping, though. I'll just have to hang in there and keep going.
Blessings,
Karen
Do not get discouraged. That 3 pounds may not seem much to you but it is a loss and you deserve a big "you go girl" Keep up the good work. Are you counting down the days until your consult? Mine is July 9 which is just around the corner. I seem to be getting a little nervous but I am also excited at the same time. Best wishes, Becky
Hang in there Karen! When I was on my 6 month thing, I even gained weight one month, but I hung in there. So you need to do the same thing. There will come a time after surgery that you will reach plateaus and won't lose as fast. Here's my .49 cents (according to Melinda), a loss is still a loss! Don't get discouraged and keep that chin up!

You are right Scott. After surgery I need to not freak out at slow weight loss. I think my new med might have something to do with it. At the first of last month my psychiatrist switched me from Geodon back to Risperdal and it causes weight gain. I am getting more and more thankful that I didn't gain. I"m still headed in the right direction. Thanks for the perspective and the encouragement.
Blessings,
Karen
Hey there sweet one!
Any loss is a good loss!!!! I lost very slowly on my six month diet. It was more up and down than constantly down. Chin up! That is three pounds of butter you just removed from your body! Nothing to sneeze at...hold your head up and revel in your success!!!
Big supportive hug!

The frustrating thing is that you have to do the 6 month diet just to qualify for surgery. I would think that 3 mos would be enough time for them to see that you are not able to lose it on your own... but insurance is insurance is insurance... they want to hang on to their money and make it difficult for people to get the treatment they need. How about if they made heart patients go on a diet for 6 mos before letting them have heart medication? That is not fair. I don't think the 6 mo diet is fair to obese individuals like us.
But.... hang in there! You are doing great, and you are so much ahead of the game for your postop life. You are getting in protein and recognizing how important it is... this will help you a great deal after surgery because you've put it in to practice already.
I can honestly say that you will lose a lot of weight from surgery. You won't have many discouraging weigh ins, except when you have a stall or plateua, and those can be frustrating... but then you get out your trusty tape measure and see how many inches came off!
Hey, that's a thought. Did you take your measurements before going on the 6 mos diet? Retake them if you did, and see how they measure up!
