Hello! I'm new to Nashville (well kinda) and have just started looking into weight loss surgery for real this time.  My new health insurence kicks in mid July and I want to get the ball rolling.  Everything looks like it will be fairly easy but there is a factor that concerns me. On the website it says my ins. company needs a record of being obese for the last 5 years.  Well I hate going to the doctors and never really did unless I was sick or preggers, so I'm not sure how that will work, any advice on that? I'm sure I will have like 100 more questions but I think I'll read some more and get some more info before asking them! Thanks, Kirsten

Welcome to Nashville and to our group. Feel free to jump in anywhere and ask all the questions you have. Sometimes they will accept pictures that can show a timeline. For example, if you have pics with your kids that show them at different ages and you are obviously obese in the picture. Good luck!

Oh I didn't even think of the picture thing, that is great advice I will start looking for and asking my aunt (who against my better judgement always managed to take pictures of me).   Thank you both for responding!

Hi Kirsten:   Welcome to the board.  Have you decided on a surgeon yet?  It took me a while to decide and I went to every WLS seminar available to the Nashville area.

Oh, one more quick question,  Have you decided on a procedure as of now?

I have Blue Cross and I did have to show that I have been obese for the last five years which was the equivalent to being one hundred pounds over weight for five years.

I had records that dated back to the 80's...  I was able to show them Nutrisystem records and weigh in's.  (I do believe that I might be one of Nutrisystems original members.)  I had weigh****cher records and receipts that spanned through all the 1990's.  I was one of the first to sign up for Phen Phen...  Was I desperate or what....(thank God I have since passed all the testing that has been given for medical clearance on this one.)  Others were not so lucky.

This is where being a pack rat really pays off.  I also had all my receipts and weigh ins for Medi Fast compliments of the Oprah era....  Can you believe that?

Hey Kirsten, ask away.  No question is a dumb question.  In the summer time it does tend to be a little slow on the boards.  So if you have a question and no one replies you might want to scroll up to the top of the page where there is a search feature.  Just type in some key words to your question and click on OH.  That might help if you are in a crunch.

All my best to you.
