I'm trying to figure out how many supplements I will need after surgery. I know about the multivitamin and the cacium citrate but I don't know how much of either or what other things I might need. Can you tell me what you postops take and how much? As in how many tablets per day? Thanks. Karen

Your surgeon will give you a list of the supplements they want you on post-op. I can tell you what I take but your surgeons requirements for you may be different. I take: 1 Centrum multi 1 Pepcid 5mg Biotin 1000 IU vitamin D Calcium Citrate with vitamin D - either 2 Citracal Creamy Bites or 4 Twinlab Calcium Citrate chewables 3 - 1000 mg each Omega 3 Fish Oil capsules 3 Dulcolax stool softeners 1 cc B12 intramuscular twice per month, self injected Your surgeon may also prescribe an iron supplement. Since I am post-menopausal, I don't require the extra iron. Many folks take a daily sublingual B12 instead of the shot. We can't absorb B12 through our digestive tract so it must be taken either by injection, sublingual or in a formula that also contains intrinsic factor which will enable the body to absorb it.

Thanks. I'm getting a good idea about what to I will need to start with. I am on a budget so I'm checking prices but that is hard to do when you dont know which are the right kind.  Blessings, Karen

Karen, At first all your vitamins and supplements will need to be chewable.  I started out on chewable Flintstones 4 tablets a day. But, the only chewable calcium was those viactive calcium chews and because they were so chewy (like caramel) they scared me. Then I went to Bariatric Advantage. They are formulated for RNY or lapband, and all chewable.  Now I take: Bariatric Advantage Calcium 2 tablets per day Bariatric Advantage Multivitamin 1 tab per day Bariatric Advantage B12 1 per day Vit E 400 iu per day Bariatric Advantage Iron 1 table per day Benefiber 3 teaspoons 2x per day in water Stool Softener every night On the Bariatric Advantage, I buy it direct from the company.  Here is the website  http://www.bariatricadvantage.com/  It is cheaper and I am on automatic ship every 3 months so the shipping is free.  Susan is right though, every surgeon has a different idea about what are the "right" combination of vitamins! Thanks Marilyn. I will check out Bariatric Advantage. I saw the Viactive chews at Walmart but they are calcium carbonate and I thought we needed calcium citrate. I also found chewable Centrum at Walmart.  I appreciate you sharing your amounts with me. I will ask the doctor what is recommended when I see him next month. I just wanted to get a general idea of the expense. Blessings, Karen
