Hair Question

Ok, so it is way past time for me to get my hair colored, but it is not too bad (thankfully).  Given the amount of hair that I've been losing, I'm a little worried about the health of my hair and having it chemically treated.  I use a professional to have it colored, so I feel I am in safe hands.  My question is this, has anyone out there had their hair chemically treated while they were going through the "hair loss" phase?  If so, did you have any additional adverse reaction, i.e., did your hair break off, did you lose more, did it become more dry/brittle, etc.  I need to know what others have experienced so I can determine if I just need to get it cut and shaped up and hold off on the coloring for now or what I should do.  Thanks so much for your input.

Hey there, pretty lady!

I used a treatment shampoo and leave in conditioner when I was loosing my hair.  I did not use the strong color (with amonia) while my hair was falling out.  My stylist wouldn't put it on...too risky.  He recommended temporary color (I used a vegetable rinse.)

Happy hair coloring!

Dear Abby,  I've been wondering that too! It's time for the hair in my ears to be trimmed and highlighted, should I trim at this point or let it grow out so I can do a unique comb over???? Opinions welcome (Like I could stop you)!!!!  Shave Face Signed: Confused in Clarksville

Ok, I must tell my allergist about my new sinus treatment - drink water while reading OH posts.  Get things cleared right up. And yes BobL, you are definitely confused.  I think you should just let it grow out and then braid it.  I will be glad to send you pretty glass beads that you can weave into your braids.  And, if you let it grow long/thick enough, you can actually have several braids in one. Ooooh, pretty!

Thank you so much you Gorgeous thing you.  I appreciate the info.  I am using a leave in conditioner as well as a thickening spray gel.  What type of treatment shampoo did you use?  I'm taking 3 Biotin capsules a day and I'm really thinking about increasing it again.  This is driving me crazy.

Well, let's see.  Do chemicals harm our hair when we are in the hair loss phase.  First of all, I'm gonna have to dig deep for this one. Back in high school, I believe there were chemicals around.  Probably not the kind you're talking about, but they were there.  Did it harm my hair?  No way! Then came The Brady Bunch, and I had to be like them.  There was nothing like seeing all the Brady men with perms.  So I added chemicals to my regimen once again.  Did they harm my hair?  Not! And then came weight loss surgery.  By this time I was chemical free.  Did it harm my hair?  You tell me! Hair loss is a serious thing! Maybe I should have got me a few chemicals!  LOL!!!  I know you are serious about this, and I really don't mean to poke fun...OK, maybe I do!   Good Luck in your quest for the truth!

I died my hair during this phase seems it did not do anything more than what was being done when it was falling out. They add a moistureiser so it should not be dry. and unless it is paper thin it should not break off.

I colored my hair (permanent color w/ conditioner) and had no problems. (And I NEVER pay a professional to do it - way too expensive!, so this was a do-it-yourself kit at home!)  It made my little sprouts the same color as my longer hair (ha ha). BTW- up, up, up your protein and make sure you're taking your vitamins every day and it will curb your hairloss! In the meantime, go ahead and color it. you'll be fine. (I should add that I'm not lightening mine w/ peroxide or anything like that. I would think twice about that, as that can dry out and brittle-ize your hair.)

Wendy:

The stuff I used was what they give chemo patients...no just your basic hair care.  It tingled and made my scalp turn red.  Worked beautifully to stop the falling out and it grew back.
