Shelia update
Hey guys! Shelia just got off the phone with Beth and she asked me to post an update. So here are Shelia's wards on how everything is going:
My blood pressure is coming up slowly, but not enough at this point. My hemanocrit is still low. So they have given me another pint of whole blood . they are going to keep me tonight too!
As soon as I hear anything else, I will let ya'll know!
When I talked to her this morning she was getting the pint of blood that she had given prior to her surgery. She said then that the doctor had already asked her about a second pint of donor blood.
Hopefully they'll get her blood pressure, hematocrit, and urine output up where it needs to be and the pain meds will start working better for her. I hate the thought of her going home before they get her pain managed.
Thanks for the update.

Hey Everyone, I just talked with Shelia and she sounded better than she did when I saw her this morning. Her pain is under better control and I know that is a blessing. She was able to sit in a chair for almost 2 hours today and has walked twice, so it seems things are looking up.
She did tell me this morning the surgeon clarified the amount of skin he removed. He removed 8 pounds from her stomach region and another 12 pounds all over for a total removal of about 20 pounds of excess skin.
She is doing well and looking forward to being back on her feet soon. At this point, she has had a total of 2 units of blood and is still running a low grade fever. She doesn't know if they are going to let her go home tomorrow yet or not, I imagine that decision will be made tomorrow after the surgeon sees her and sees how her blood pressure, blood count, blood sugar, pain level, urine output, and fever are all doing.
Once I know more, I will put up another post. She wanted me to be sure to thank everyone for their calls, prayers and visits. She really appreciates each of you for the support.
I saw her this morning as well. She was receiving blood and trying hard not to think about the pain, but it was clearly present. I gave her some suggestions about when to ask for something different. I was busy today and didn't have the opportunity to get back up there, but will go first thing in the morning and check on her again. I will do better and post an update after I see her. It should be around 9 or 9:30. In plenty of time for the doctor to review her chart and make a decision about her going home or not.
more tomorrow,
Sherry
