Update on Shelia

I stopped by the hospital last night and wound up staying until 10:30 and then hubby was on the computer when I got home so I couldn't post then. Anyway...Wendy has already let you know that they didn't finish up until 7. The doc came out to talk to Todd just a few minutes after 7. He said everything went well and he removed right at 12 lbs of skin. Most of it was the pannus, 8 lbs there! We went back to recovery about 8 and she was in a lot of pain. The doctor had not ordered a pain pump so they were giving pain meds in her IV. The dilaudid just was not working well for her. She kept talking and wanting us to talk to her to distract her from the pain. I did ask her how her headache was and she replied "What head?" So she did have her sense of humor. They took her up to her room about 9 and she let her nurse there know that she was really hurting and asked again about a pain pump. That nurse contacted her doctor and got him to order the pump. Woo Hoo!! I think knowing she was going to have some control over her pain meds helped a lot. She was very concerned about having to wait for them to get to her when she needed something, especially during the night. Her friend Gina was coming to spend the night with her so Todd could go home and see to the pets and stuff. Todd has to work today so I'm sure she would love company. She is in room 715 and the phone number is 222-2715. As of last night, the plan was to send her home sometime today. Probably before noon. If the doctor can find a reason to justify another night on the insurance company, he will keep her. We did get a mirror so she could see her new flat, tiny self. She was amazed, and then the nurse and I pointed out to her that some of what she was seeing was surgical sponges so she is actually smaller and flatter than she looks with all the dressings. She is going to be so happy with her results. This next week will be rough. But, as I told her, each day will be better and the results are worth it!

Great news. Thanks for the update. Wishing her well. Wow - 12 pounds. I bet she will feel much better with that gone and after she recovers.

Thanks for the info. Hate to hear that she had to wait on things, especially the pain pump. Glad to hear that she could cut jokes about it though......lol. Still praying for them all. Cheryl
