Holy Crap - THAT was an AWFUL EXPERIENCE!!
Been there!
Done that!
Got the T-shirt to prove it!
I know exactly what you are talking about! I have not had that sensation since surgery, but I did experience the "foamies" for the last 20 or so years. There is nothing like having to excuse yourself from the dinner table because you look like a rabid dog! All I can say is I hope you or any of my other friends never have to go through that again!
I am adding the note to self to my remember file;
"Don't eat at Mickey D's!!!!!!!"
Goodness Bob, so sorry you had to experience this. Yea foamies are the worst. I remember it well. I could not tolerate eggs for a whilke after surgery they made me sick early out as well. That's the bad part we all have to learn the hard way... Glad your feeling better and you were still able to enjoy the motorcycles.
I'm hoping to have Lap Band surgery sometime this summer and I'm wondering what I will be able to eat out after surgery. After reading your experience Bob, now I'm really concerned. I go to several conferences each year where we are at a location not close to anything and you must eat what they offer. Will I need to take protein shakes with me for the whole weekend?
Thanks for any info.
The further out you will be able to eat more of a variety, but it will always be a great rule of thumb to travel with protein shakes and/or protein bars. I do know that if you either speak to someone ahead of time or at the conference, in regards to your dietary needs most places are more than willing to help out with this. My husband had a Christmas Party this year at Opryland in which a Brunch was served, there was nothing and I repeat nothing that I could eat, I asked a server if I could get an egg and they took me to the person in charge, and I was brought a plate of eggs, well way more than I could eat, even though I said one egg was more than enough, I guess they felt odd putting one egg on such a large plate.. LOL However, they were wonderful about seeing that I was able to eat. You may want to try that!!

Baboo, I had Lap Band done on March 26. The transitition back to regular solid foods is much, much sooner than with RNY surgery. The first 48-72 hours post op, you are on soft foods (cottage cheese, soft cheese, protein drinks are ok, chicken or tuna salad etc). Then you can eat what you want. Just remember to take small bites, chew, chew, chew and don't drink with your meals. Wait an hour after eating to drink. (that one is the hardest for me). With each fill, you go back to soft foods for 24-48 hours to allow for the swelling caused by adjusting the band to go away. Even after my first fill, I didn't seem to be restricted as much as I thought I would be. I could eat 3/4 to 1 cup of food with each meal.
I just received my 2nd fill last week. NOW, I feel restricted. I can eat 1/4 to 1/2 cup at each meal and get full. I have to remember to take small, small bites, chew, chew and chew some more and take about 20-30 minutes to complete my meal. If I eat too fast, it feels like it gets stuck and will come back up. (that has only happened once and It will not happen again.) It was pretty much the same experience that Bama Bob had on his trip last weekend.
I know how to prevent it and will from now on. It was not pleasant. But part of the Band's ability to remind me to eat slowly and take small bites.
With all that said, it is still the best thing I have done for myself (Lap Band). I have lost a total of 52 pounds so far, (30 prior to surgery and 22 post). I can tell a big difference in my clothes even without the scale number. Keep up the good work,

Hey Sherry,
Thanks for that information. Yesterday I went for my last visit to my PCP and couldn't wait to call Dr. Morton's office to set up my appointment. Well Amy called me first thing this morning and told me his first appointment is August 18 @ 1:15pm. I couldn't believe I will have to wait that long! Then of course if will be at least 2 weeks after that for the liquid diet before surgery. So the earliest I can expect surgery is Sept. 1 and it could be much longer. Amy said that would depend on Dr. Morton's surgery schedule. I felt like going out and eating everything in site I was so disappointed!! Then I had to laugh because I thought "yeah, that will really show them. You take the poison and expect it to kill the other person!. They could care less what I eat. It would only hurt me!: I have been working on checking the items needed for surgery off my list since January and I was just hoping to have my surgery this summer. I have a really busy fall and will be out of town alot. I wanted a period of time to adjust to my new way of eating before I had to travel.
Thanks for letting me vent!
