I THINK I AM STARVING- Please help
I feel like I am staring to death! I thought I was doing better but tonight has gotten the best of me!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am 5 days into a two week pre-op diet and I would love to eat something filling for my stomach. It keeps growling very loudly!! I have had to supplement breakfast and lunch with protein shakes. For supper I have to eat a low fat, low calorie Healthy Choice, Lean Cusine, South Beach, etc. frozen dinner. ( one without pasta or rice) This is so much less than what I used to eat. I can have broth, sugar free frozen popsicles and sugar free jello. Even though these are unlimited....I am still starving!!!!
Beginning next Tuesday, I have to go to all liquids for 7 days!! What am I doing to do??
Did anyone else do this??
I have also been having headaches because of not eating. Will this get better??????
Here is my question............Will I still have this same starvation feeling after my surgery????????
O.K. First off - tell yourself "SELF, I AM NOT STARVING" it is your mind telling you that, not your stomach! The noises you are hearing are from lack of water - drink more fluids prefferably water. Second, the headaches are not from not eating but from stressing over this. No you will not have that starving feeling after surgery, but the head hunger will reappear eventually. For this to work you, you need to get a mental grip on it and tell yourself, "SELF, I CAN DO THIS!" Kepp eating the popsicles and the SF jello - You will be fine. Just get a grip on the situation and don't let the situation get a grip on you.

Couldn't agree with Beth more.
I know your thinking is it going to be this way for ever?
The answer is no, the surgery will change your desires completely where you won't be doing it solely on will power!!
So now lets get you through the next ten days.
The headaches are from lack of carbs and dehydration, try drinking your broth and more liquid in general, I was told the broth would help and it did for me especially day 3-5.
Also if you were a big caffeine drinker you are going through a little detoxes it will pass.
One key is try and stay ahead of the hunger, I don't know what your requirements are from your WLS team but mine when on liquid, 6 liquid shakes a day.
I drank every two hours faithfully even if I didn't want one right then, because if I waited another hour I was then starved and thats when you get yourself in trouble.
Also stay busy keep your mind off eating as much as possible. Remember this is the hard part you can do this and the sense of accomplishment will show you can do anything.
Good luck!
Keep asking for help as we are here to help!!

Hey Bob, Thanks for the advice. I will only be allowed to drink 4 protein shakes when I go to all liquids. That might help if I try and drink broth every two hours instead of waiting until I feel hungry. What kind of broth did you drink? I am sure that I need more liquids. I am so thankful everyone is here to help me. I am hoping one day to meet everyone at the Lunch Bunch!

I agree about getting a "MENTAL GRIP". I want to be strong like you are!!! I did NOT realize how much food controlled me!!!! Thanks for your advice I will try it!! I want this to be a huge SUCCESS!! I have also been exercising each day for 1 to 1 1/2 hours everyother day at the Y. I am sure that plays a part in my hunger. YOU ARE RIGHT....more water I thought this would be a good thing for me to begin. This is my third week of exercising!! YEAH!! Thanks for you help!!
I do not know if it was me or if this would work for everyone, but in addition to Beth's advice, I ate my meal at lunch and a shake at night. For some reason, I was not as hungry, I think it was because there was food in the middle of the day to fill me up some. You may want to try this!!
You can do this!!

I tried regular broth in a box or can but found it to taste to fatty, so I switched to bullion liked it way better. But after surgery came home made a cup and darn near sprew first sip. Like they say your taste will change after WLS, you believe it before WLS, but you really believe it post WLS, smells heighten, taste change. C'ya Bob
