Did anyone need to go on vitimin therapy before RNY? They (vandy) is having us go on Vitamin D and calcium therapy for eight weeks (two months!) The Vitamin D is 50,000 mg (prescription strength) I bought the citrical plus (has vitamin d , magnisium, zinc, b6, copper, manganese, boron,,and calcium:) I also had the Centrum Chewables  I am kind of glad we are doing this because I had to figure out what and when to take the different vitamins. Vitamin D is twice a week Citrical is three times a day Centrum is twice a day ----- I looked for the liquid calcium in drugstores all over town but couldnt find any citrate ones. I would rather take the liquid instead of capsule. Can anyone please share what vitamins how many a day and where to get it at. Thanks!

I know others may disagree, but I prefer the BaratricAdvantage Calcium Citrate and the price is not that bad, if you sign up for auto- ship, you do not pay any shipping either!!! Plus, you can get for however months you prefer and in a variety of flavors, I believe they have a mint, choc, cherry, and cin. Try them, but I am also sure that they will send you samples to try before you buy too!! Its a good idea to get on vitamins prior to surgery.  It not only puts you in a habit of taking them, but it gets them in your system.  I think it takes about 3 mos of solid vitamin usage or non usage for it to show up in your system. Also, you will want to start upping your protein intake now....  did you know that protein promotes healing and is good to increase before surgeries?  SHELIA, I hope you are upping yours now .  Teresa from Bariatric Eating told me to up mine to about 200 g a day before my plastic surgery. Recently Susan Maria posted an article by the Nutrition council that said regular vitamins are not effective in gastric bypass patients...  they followed patients for two years, and within a year approx 59% needed other vitamin supplements.  Within 2 years, 98% of all patients needed supplements and that's because their regular vitamins were not working. I myself only use Bariatric Advantage.  I'm sorry to say that kids vitamins are not made for us.  We need good vitamins with levels that are specifically formulated for our malabsorptive bodies.

My advice, along with everyone else , is to start now and make it a habit!  You will do fine!

You can get liquid calcium at GNC. The brand is Tropical Oasis and it's orange flavor. It's a 32 oz bottle. It was about $30. You may want to call your local GNC and see if they have it. Good luck! Taking vitamins has been so difficult for me because of the bad taste. I have horrible gag reflex. Only things that are either liquid or have a good fruit flavor/chewable work for me.

Chandra,            Is the Tropical Oasis, Calcium Citrate, because Citrate is what we must have, just double checking to make sure you are taking the right thing.  I went to GNC once before and they did not have the Citrate in liquid, unles they have it now. Let me know, because it would be great to hear!! Shelia By the way, it looks as if you are doing wonderful.  I too belong to the same gym that you do, maybe after my surgery we can work out together some.  Wendy also belongs to that gym as well!!!  So you do have some gym buddies, that is if you like LOL!!!

Yes the Tropical Oasis is Citrate. Here in Clarksville the only place I could find it is at the Vitamin & Herb Shop in the Kohl's Shopping Center on Wilma Rudolph, GNC said they were going to carry it here but had not got any in last time I checked.  I used it, liked it, tasted OK. But I too switched to Bariatric Advantage they have cinnamon, chocolate and others. I actually can't wait to take mine, it's like a little piece of candy.  You should have received a sample when you when to your nutritionist. The cheapest place I've found to order it is through Vandy's e-store which is in the packet you will receive or have received from your NUT. cheaper then buying direct. go figure?  C'ya Bob

Yep, it is the citrate. At Centennial, they actually list the Tropical Oasis as the liquid option of calcium citrate. Absolutely we can work out together.  I just left  the gym. I did 45 minutes, 1.6 miles on the treadmill. My trainer said we'll start weights on Monday.

Thanks yall, I will have to ask my GNC again, to see if they have gotten it in now.  Bob, I too can't wait to take mine either, my fav is the cin and cherry.  I have also found if my stomach is a little upset and I take the cin, it helps to settle it, go figure two for one!!! LOL Chandra, I will look forward to working out and having a buddy, however it will be a while since my surgery is Wed and I will be out of commission for a while!!
