Constipation

Ok guys, lets talk.  I know this is personal, but I need advice.  When I went to the surgeon, I told them I was still having problems with constipation.  They didn't seem too concerned, but it really bugs me.  I have done dulcolax, senokot s, metamucil, and miralax.  All but miralax work the first time, but none ongoing.  Miralax didn't do a thing.  I 've tried drinking more.  What do you guys do?  I know it is a side effect of the RNY, but does this last forever???  I can't understand how with a malabsorption surgery, we get so dang constipated!! Hi Marilyn!  Are you still on pain meds for your back?  Those will do it too!   I don't have the problem, but know of several who do, so I sympathize with you.  Good Luck. Beth

I take Dulcolax stool softener every day. That and my morning latte usually gets things moving. I also find that if I have 1/2 an apple or pear, I go really good the next day. I know, TMI. LOL It may still be too soon for you to have the skin on fruit if you decide to try that. I only ate peeled fruit until I was a year out and I really watched my portion size as well as how often I had it. The only other option I can offer would be Milk of Magnesia if you go more than 2 days without a BM.

I have had this problem ever since surgery, never before but all the time now.  MOM has become my best friend and I also take a stool softner to help get things moving.  I have actually been to the ER, because I was so full of it in the past, not fun, but hopefully this too shall pass!!! Different things work for different people.   When we started this journey, I was taking Chew able Fiber that I got from Sam's!  That seemed to be working, but I didn't know any better.  I have suffered from constipation my entire life.  Wendy S. posted about Benefiber and I tried that.  WOW, what a difference.  It is tasteless and mixes well in everything!   Good luck in finding what will work for you!
