First Weigh In Post Op... OMG!
I just HAD to come straight home after I left the gym and share this with you all. But, before I do I need to give my whole story. So, I've had a gym membership since 06 but unfortunately didn't use it. Partly because people who said they would exercise with me didn't and because it used to be Gold's and the Antioch location was 24 hrs. But, last year Gold's changed to Urban Active and their hours changed. At that time, I was working 10 hr days and even had I wanted to go, I would not have had time. I argued this with them several times that I was paying for something I couldn't use. Needless to say, I've been a bit disgruntled with them for awhile. So, today I go to the Brentwood location to attempt to change my membership to there from Antioch because it's a little closer. The woman there was SOOO rude and gave me the 3rd degree and not once an apology over my frustration about afore mentioned. Well, I left there and went to the one in Antioch. Now, I have not walked a mile since I was like 18 or 19. Loooong time ago!!! Back when I joined the gym, I couldn't make it to a half mile because my legs, ankles, feet and back would hurt so bad. And, I could hardly breath. Today I walked TWO miles and was not hurting or out of breath. It felt sooo very good! Now, I walked 1 mile rested then walked another mile. But, I actually was going to leave after the first mile but one of the personal trainer's stopped me and started talking. Next thing I know, I got myself a personal trainer. At first, I was hesitant because of the money. But then I got to thinking that if I add up the money I used to spend on soda, cigarettes, chips, candy bars, vending machines at work etc. that would cover it. And, I'm investing in my health. Especially in this 1st year that losing the weight and toning at the same time is so crucial. So, while I was signing a year of my life away to my trainer, he was taking care of a client. While waiting on him is when I walked my 2nd mile. OK... now to the really BIG exciting news. Drum roll please.... I weighed at the gym. The day of surgery I weighted 367 (lost 3 lbs before surgery) Today, 8 days after surgery, I weighted 343!!! Can you believe it??? In 8 days I've lost 24 lbs!!!! I couldn't believe it! I kept asking if the scales are calibrated. Are you sure? When was the last time? Are you sure? Tomorrow is my follow up with Dr. Houston and I can't wait to walk in and tell him I lost 24 lbs! I know he comes off all stern and stuff but I'm gonna hug his neck and I don't care what he thinks LOL
Just my opinion, but be carefully weighing at places other than home and your doctors office. I would take other numbers with a grain of salt. If you go back to weight at your sugeon and haven't really lost that much weight you will be disappointed. I would hate to see you get discouraged. Whatever you have lost, it is a great accomplishment and you should be proud.
Good luck.

You go girl!!
Even if the scales at the doctor's office weighs different than the gym, you know you have lost weight. Adding the exercise and the personal trainer is going to make it flow off in no time.
Gyms count on people not using the memberships they buy. That's why they make you pay for the year in advance. If everyone who purchased a membership were to show up on a regular basis, they would violate the occupancy codes of their facility. I'm proud of you for realizing you are worth the investment.

Thanks Susan! Well, yeah... even if it is a little off by a lb or 2 no biggie. I just can't imagine it being grotesquely off. When I was at the gym, I watched almost every person who came in get on the scales. I would think if they were way off that they would be telling someone. But anywho, at least I know I'm on track. I never in my life could have imagined losing even 5 lbs.
