Lying Restaurants should be ashamed

I heard on the radio this morning and read an article today about restaurants lying about their calorie and fat content on their "diet" section of their menu. I think this is ridiculous. I have never thought to not trust what it said. Apparently, some of the chains are apologizing for the error but what kind of excuse can they give. Some of the items are obviously lies. Like the Macaroni Grills "Skinny Chicken" dish that they list as 500 calories and 6 grams of fat is actually 1,022 calories and 49 grams of fat!!! That was not a small error. I guess I wouldn't be so mad if it really was an overlook or error on their part but there is no way that could be true with such major discrepancies. Some people actually do try to keep up with their calories and fat content and expect to go to restaurants and still be able to keep up with their calories for the day but how can you in this case. Especially for restaurants that openly advertise healthy meals (like Chilis Guiltless menu).  It makes you realize that if you don't cook it at home, then you can't trust it. Geez - they should be fined! I will get over it. But I am one that does like to eat out sometimes and I usually always look online at nutrition info before we go so I can have a plan on what I am going to get. I just get frustrated when this kind of thing happens. And they wonder why Americans are obese - because even if you try to do right you can't win.  http://news.aol.com/health/story/ar/_a/restaurant-diet-menus -not-all-so-lean/20080523151409990001

Gotta agree with you Misty, pretty darn crappy! I saw a program several years ago that did a under cover investigation of restaurants and decaf coffee. From very nice high dollar restaurants to fast food, something like 8 out of 10 served regular coffee saying it was decaf. I had a experience a few weeks back sense I've been decaf for a couple months I asked the waitress is it really decaf? Oh sure made it my self. Well bull I don't know if it was because of the surgery and absorption or being caffeine free I drank two cups and was bouncing of the walls. Pre WLS I would drink a pot and go off to bed and sleep like a baby, well those two cups kept me up all night. Just shows you you never really know. I saw a story similar to this recently. It was about how some chains will not release the nutritional information at all. I know it's very aggrivating.  I kind of put off that cookbooks don't include that information as well. In a day when obesity is becoming and epedemic, you would think that these companies would realize how important this information is to consumers.
