Hey y'all....I go to Centennial for my consult with Dr. Houston on 11/7...and there are some things I was hopin' y'all might be able to answer for me first.... 1. I have a hietal hernia...will that be a problem or a delay in my surgery? 2. how long did it take any of you to get your date after your consult? 3. does everyone have to go on a pre-surgery diet? 4. can I sleep on my belly after I get my lap band?...I do my best snoring there! 5. Anyone else used Dr. Houston? How was it? 6. What is "back on my feet" recovery time for a lap band? (how long should I take off work?) ThAnKs Y'all!!!

I will answer the questions the best that I can.... 1. can not respond did not have one. 2. I was able to get my date within a month after my consult. I had to complete the psych eval and wait on ins. approval. 3. I did have a pre-op diet, but I was not on a liquid diet until after surgery. I just had to watch my carb, protein, and fat intake. 4. I was able to sleep on my tummy after about two weeks with the support of my pillow. 5. I was able to go back to work in a week, but my job does not involve any lifting or strenuous work. I have a desk job. My surgeon prefers 2 wks for desk jobs and 6 wks for laborous jobs. I felt recovered from surgery within a couple of days. I was able to enjoy my week off from work.

Hi Kendra, question #1, I had gastric bypass and it was repaired while my Dr. was doing everything else. no it won't delay your surgery. 2. about a month, but chose for January, so as to not ruin the holidays. 3. That depends on the insurance company, some say you have to do a 3 month dr. supervised diet, others say they have to do a 6 month supervised diet, before they can approve the surgery, with monthly weigh-ins. 4. Sounds like you may have some sleep apnea going on there, might want to get it checked first and have the report sent to your surgeron. 5. several on this board have used Dr. Houston. There is also a forum for just lapbanders. You might want to check it out and see what they have to say. 6. that one I can't answer to as I had the gastric bypass. Best of luck and may God guide you on your journey. kathy

Kendra good morning I had lap band on Oct19 You will have to ask Dr Houston about your hernia he will answer all your questions I have DR Dyer( excellent surgeon).. sleeping on your tummy?? no, not for a few weeks after all that is where is your port is and also you will be sore from surgery Dr houston does have a pre surgery diet but only 2 days before surgery not 2 weeeks It depends on what your insurance requires for instance many require a six month doctor supervived diet before you can be approved for surgery You will only stay overnight at Centennial (excellent hospital) you will need at least a week to get back on your feet and also that is when you can start eating real food.. lol.. I had no real pain no gas and no nausea but depending on howwell you folllow your drs orders and also other factors are involved... go to the forum at top of this page then run your mouse over forums click on lap band.. everyone there had had or is going to have lap band and they are so very freindly and helpful most other boards have had RNYS you will be glad you have the lap band forum here ... it helped me prepare properly and had tons of support to get me thru it Welcome!!!!
