I have been denied twice and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for what I can do differently when I start the process again?

Have you taken pictures to send with your paperwork? My doctor's office told me to take some pictures in a bathing suit (or skivvies) just in case my initial application was denied. They said to make sure the pics showed that you indeed have the rolls of fat to prove your weight. I had 6 of the 8 co-morbidities listed and a BMI of 51+ so I had no trouble getting approved. Good luck! Don't give up the fight, it's worth it. Susan

Do you have a list of items from your insurance that they require? Blue Cross has a list and they stick to it... so I had to just keep providing what was necessary... that's a good start. Will your doctor's office do an appeal? Then you can do a greivance.

Do you have all of your comorbidities documented? The key to my getting everything approved was having the sleep study and getting the sleep apnea diagnosis, documenting my GERD, documenting my high cholesterol and my medically supervised diet. My request was over 60 pages long. I found out what they had to have and I sort of made it impossible for them to legally turn me down. Just document document document. Janie

Thanks for the replies. The pictures are a good idea, so I will add that to my packet. I am working on getting all the necessary information together now...again. I have the list from BlueCross. They have changed the requirements from the first time I sent in the information so now I have to have all these psychlogical tests done...but I will do anything I have to do. Thanks for the support.
