I am just taking a poll to see how many people have trouble getting records collected for their bariatric surgery so their information can be sent to the insurance company to get their approval.

Hi Jay! I didn't have any trouble. I called my insurance company and asked them what info they were going to need me to provide and what they would need from my doctor. When I went in for my consultation with Dr. Spaw just 2 days after the seminar, I had already pulled together all of the information I had that I thought would be helpful. I had my old Weigh****cher member books documenting a 2 year (failed) attempt to prove that I had tried a supervised diet program. My PCP was also VERY supportive and wrote my letter of medical necessity right away. Susan

Hi Jay, I didn't have any trouble getting copies of my records, cost me $20 because I was going to hand deliver them myself. I have several Dr.'s, and managed to get copies of all my records. I even had some of them copied so I would have a spare copy for myself just incase I didn't get copies for the surgeons, or if I was denied by the surgeon. When I did find the Dr. for me I had copies of all my records plus all lab work. I went in letting them know that I had/have leukemia. Mine said he would do the surgery as long as my blood work was in normal ranges. I had my surgeon in January 06, and have had no regrets, except the first chemo pills caused my potassium to constantly drop. My body also rejected it, I'm on a new chemo pill and doing great, I don't swell up or get sick to my stomach like I did with the first chemo pills. Plus it doesn't eat up my potassium. I would say outside of having to pay $20 for my PCP records, everyone else helped me out plus wrote a letter of medical necessary to go to my insurance companys. Best of luck to you on this journey. May God be with you. kathy

The only trouble I had was remembering all the doctors I had seen. My insurance required 5 years worth of medical records. Well during the last five years, I moved several times between going to college, graduating from college, and moving again since. I did lack one year during that 5 year time frame required. I was still approved which I think is a miracle in itself. Good luck to ya! April
