Good lord, is this the day for bad news? I posted this morning about my friend Armilda's hubby having lukemia. That is bad enough. Now I just called another old friend one who joined OH last year, she and her husband both had rny this past March. Her name is Donna Hanvey and her hubby is Brian. Donna and I usually talk online everyday. Several times a day. We've been friends for 7 yrs now even though they live down in Tn and we're up here. I haven't heard from her in 3 weeks and I guess I've been so selfishly absorbed in my own troubles I hadn't given it much thought till now. So I called down to where she works and asked for her. (I'm so heartbroken, I can barely see to type so I apologize if I'm not making much sense or I misspell) She answered and I asked her what was wrong. It seems that on Sept 29, 06 her husband Brian was riding his motorcycle and a woman ran a redlight. She hit him. He was critically injured. He has numerous broken bones, including back, pelvis, shoulder out of place. The time of the accident he had a ruptured aorta (sp?) and they said it was a miracle he lived. Now, they're saying it will be a miracle if he's not paralyzed from the waist down. So please say a prayer for these 2 wonderful, loving people. They've shared over 20 yrs together, have a son, daughter in law, and they've been on this weight loss journey together since March, they're surgerys were 3 weeks apart. Heres the link to Donnas page and a address for the hospital he's in down in Nashville for a card of encouragement. They need all the love and encouragement they can get. I'm sorry to come on here again and post about this especially since I posted about Armildas hubby having lukemia this morning, that is still bad but he's got the kind they can fight. I'm just so torn up for Brian and Donna. Say a little prayer for them. Brian Hanvey c/o Vanderbuilt Hospital 1211 22nd Avenue South Nashville Tn, 37232 http://obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/members/status.php?N=H1135021185 Thank u all so much for being there. We all really are a family and I love u all.

Hi Angela, I am sorry to hear about the problems with both friends. I too have Leukemia, diagnosed in July 05 and had my surgery Jan. 06. Do you know exactly what type of leukemia he has? Mine is Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia or CML. It's rare and you have to take a certain chemo pill just to maintain the Leukemia. I started out of Gleevec, but my body rejected it and now I am on Sprycel. Less side affects only been on the market since June, on the Gleevec that's $100 a mg. I was on 800 mg nightly. The only way I was able to get it was thru the VA Medical Center in Nashville. But the side affects were horrible. Plus it would eat up your potassium levels by having the gastric bypass. This new drug doesn't. I haven't had to have any potassium given to me in 3 weeks, by blood levels are coming back up into the normal ranges and not vomiting everytime I would eat. This new drug I only need to take 70 mg in the morning and 70 12 hours later. My GI Dr. was glad to hear that this new drug doesn't make me constipated like the Gleevec did. As for Donna and her hubby. Don't even have to ask. I have all three written down on my prayer list so I can talk to my Lord and let him know what is going on and meet each of them their needs. Hubby will get better, will take some time, but he will heal. You and your friends are all in my prayers. Keep me updated or the board about their progress. Love Kathy

Thank u Kathy, so much. As for his lukemia. I'm really not sure. They told her a name and she told me but I can't remember right now. Its something they said mainly kids get. They're going to do 2 weeks of chemo and then he is supposed to get out of the hospital. He got a picc line and J line in today, what ever the J line is, hadn't heard of that one. I know Donna misses her TN board and she asked me to let everyone know. If I could I'd drive down to Nashville tomorrow to see them. I will update more as I know. I'll check in with her every few days. Love Ange

I'm so sorry to hear about Brian and will keep him in my prayers. This is a terrible story. Was the other person who caused the injury hurt also? Thank you for the address to Vanderbilt.

I have no idea if she was or not. Donna was so upset talking about Brian and I was so shocked I didn't even think to ask. Thanks for your prayers. I know they appreciate them.
