hi everyone i am courtney. i just found this site. had surgery in late july and have loved it ever since but i am having problems figuring out how to get my 60 grms of protien and having food that is more than just meat and cheese. i dont like beans and alot of the health food dieting ideas. i was wondering if anyone had any easy meal ideas that taste good and are simple. i mean i dont mind the almost all meat thing but i miss more complicated flavors in my life.
Hi Courtney, where did you have your surgery? Have you talked to a nutritionist? They often have post-gastric bypass cookbooks. Another thing you can look into is a diabetic cookbook, essentially the diet is about the same. I tend to do protein smoothies (usually for breakfast) and Pria Nutrition bars (as snacks) to suppliment and I average about 70 grams per day. Some days a little more and some a little less.
How long ago was your surgery, depending on how far out you are, you should be able to incorporate fruits & veggies back into your diet which will help some with missing flavors.
Here is my receipe for a protein smoothie: (275 calories, 29 gr protein)
8 oz skim milk
2 tbsp unflavored protein powder (I use MLO Milk & Egg protein)
3/4 c frozen fruit (I use a smoothie blend of strawberries, pinapple, & mango but you can use any frozen fruit you like)
Put it all in a blender until smooth and enjoy. It really is like a milk shake without any fat and low in sugar. If you don't tolerate fruits, you can try using a chocolate flavored (or pick your favorite flavor) protein powder and crushed ice, blending until smooth.
I have on occasion added some cocoa powder to make my smoothie chocolaty (you know PMS can do weird things to us sometimes) and that only adds 15 calories and an you get additional gram of protein.
Oh I just remembered, Kroger has a Carb Master Yogurt that has 12 gr protein in an 8 oz serving. It's a little limited on flavors, Vanilla, Strawberry & Peach, but it's really good.

my surgery was in july. it was done by charles morton at southern hills. i like him alot he is a good guy. he and his staff do everything to make you comfertable. i have gladly lost 43lbs. my stomach can pretty much tolerate anything. no i have not seen a nutritionist. i got the whole poor college kid thing going on LOL and my insurance was mad enough about the surgery LOL. I only know two people who have had the surgery that is where i got morton's name from. but i do not get to see them often. so most of this stuff i have been figuring out on my own.
Thankyou for the recipie it sounds good
Courtney
Hello Courtney, Good to have you join us. I don't know about you, but I sometimes have CIB w/ protein powder in it. Look for the sugar free or the less sugar kind. I also put protein powder in S.F pudding, just to make sure I get my protein in. Have you tried boiling some chicken w/ spices (if you can tolerate) then mixing it with the light mayo, green peppers, small dash of salt & pepper. Try spreading this on low fat crackers. If you have the unflavored protein powder, try mixing some in with the chicken salad. I hope this has helped.
Sara.
