Has anyone here had the "Mini Gastric Bypass" surgery?
I hope to have surgery in January 2007 in High Point, North Carolina at the High Point Regional Medical Center performed by Dr Thomas Walsh or Dr James Dasher. Just wondering if anyone has any information on this procedure, the hospital or the doctors.
Thanks!
Hi Mike, never heard of the hospital, the Dr.'s, or anything about the Mini Gastric bypass. I had the RNY gastric bypass, it's more permanent then just the lapband. When you find out anything about a mini gastric bypass please let us know. I know from the different seminars I attended it was never mentioned. Best of luck on your new journey. Kathy
Hi Mike, if you want to learn more of this particular procedure, at the top of this page look for the word... Forums... there is a drop down menu then click on mini gastric by pass and go there and ask all the questions you want, also go the the North Carolina forum and post a few times about your surgeon and Hight Point hospital .....in your browser , you can type in the name of your surgeon and also you can type in the name of your hospital and see what comes up..in the upper left hand corner of this page... it says find a bariatric surgeon .. click on that and see if your surgeon is listed with ObesityHelp he just might be ... the folks in most of the rooms are RNY unless you go to a particualr forum, and most do not know about this particuar kind of surgery ... good luck onyour journey ... Thanks for the tips! Checking it out now.
I'm supposed to talk to my PCP about it tomorrow for his opinion and to see if he will work with the hospital in NC.

Mike,
I wish you luck in your journey. I would suggest that you do a TON of research before making the decision on the type of surgery you have, though. I did a ton of research and was very uneasy with the idea of the MGB. There are many people who have done very well with it, as with any surgery, but there are many more that have had MAJOR complications. The surgery is not covered by most insurance companies due to the extremely high complications rate, and there not being very much by way of long-term independent studies. If you go to the MGB forum message boards, you will see a lot of information there from patients who are doing well and who are doing not-so-well.
