Question
I had surgery on 7/11/06 and I have noticed that my foot has swollen up; just my foot on one leg. I don't know if it because I have been putting salt on stuff to offset the taste of the unjury. But I have always been a salt person & have never had this problem before. I was wondering if anyone has experienced this or know of anyone who has. I am scared to contact my dr.; fear of being a pain in the butt patient, or be admitted again.
I agree with Susan, prop your feet up, lay off some of the salt, use salt substitute instead, that includes using no onion salt or garlic salt, but using the onion and garlic powder. This will help keep the swelling down. Contact your Dr.'s office, the answer service will contact your surgeon and he will tell you what to do. Don't wait to contact him on Monday, he may have you lay off the salt some and keep your legs elevated and if not any better by today, then go to the ER, they will give you a shot of lasix and you will do a lot of peeing, everytime mine swell up and I'm on a water pill, I can actally feeling the excess fluids drawing from my legs.
you're in my prayers, Kim, love Kathy
Hi kim.. sure hope your swelling goes down... I have swelling also in my ankles hoping the problem goes away as the weight comes off ..Had my surgery on Thursday came home the next morning (yesterday) and I have already lost 5lb since thursday I believe you and I have already met in the hall of the hospital in August ? Am i right? I was just wondering why you are still on protein shakes and not solid food? I was told Pre-op... clear liquids for first 3 days, full liquids ( which is really clear liquids with 4 or 5 Eas advent shakes a day thrown in) for next 4 days , then... blended diet for next 7 days , then regular high protein low carb Are you having trouble getting your solid protein in?? Anyway just wanted to say "Hi "we both have the same Surgeon!!
Arianna,
The post-op diet for RNY is different than lap-band. I was on pureed for 8 weeks post. I also used unflavored Unjury to add protein to many soft foods while on the pureed diet. And yes, it is harder for us to get adequate protein from solid foods in the beginning.
Glad to hear you're doing well so soon after surgery. Welcome to the loser's bench!
Susan
Kim Poole,
Did you ever consider that you might be suffering from a common known but over looked affiction that still affect's many this day and age. It is called gout, you want to have your family doctor look at your foot too. Gout is nothing to joke about. Gout is a type of arthritis that comes out of the blue.It can cause the skin to turn red hot and leaving the affected joint swollen and tender. An attack of gout can last for days. Gout is caused by very plebeian uric acid. It is in everyone's bloodstream. But if you have gout you either produce too much or you produce a normal amount and don't excrete enough. That is why many suffer's go to the doctor if they have gout. Please go to the doctor and do not suffer with that or any kind of foot pain. I am not giving out medical advice, just giving an example of what could be wrong with you. So please go to the doctor.
I hope you feel better real soon.
Your friend,
Tina Cannon
