New to this.... I was curious if there was anyone out there that had Dr. Rutledge as their surgeon?

Well, first off, let me say that I do not know this doctor, have never met him, but...with that said...I do think it speaks volumes about a bariatric surgeon when they are not registered with Obesity Help. This site is not just an amateur site...this site is THE premier site for information and support. This is a big deal and most surgeons who are truly committed to this issue either register, support the site financially, or both. This is a leap of faith for them because they do not receive any favoritism for this...patients are free to leave any comments they want regardless of whether or not the surgeon is a sponsor. So to be registered, a doctor has to have faith that his or her good name is going to stand for itself. Dr. Rutledge is not even registers. Also, I have a cousin in Lafayette, Georgia, about 30 minutes south of Chattanooga, who went to see this doctor. She was so unimpressed that she decided to keep looking. Now, again, I do not know this doctor so I cannot speak from personal information...these are just some things to think about. Good Luck with your decision whatever it is and be sure to keep us all posted. I will add you to my friends list so we can communicate easier.

Hi, Dr. Rutledge did my surgery back in July. I think that he is very amazing and really cares about his patients. He is only the 2nd doctor in my life that I have met that I have truely trusted with my life. Dr. Rutledge has a great manner with his patients. He treats you as a person. I highly reccomend him. I know several others in the Chattanooga area that highly recommended him to me when I was thinking about having this surgery. Have you gone to one of his seminars? Even his staff are very caring people. I haven't had a bad experience yet there. If you want to email me with any question please feel free to. Take care, and I hope this helps. I'm so glad you replied to this post...I'm very glad Christine has someone who actually has experience to reply. You ought to encourage Dr. Rutledge to register so everyone can see his obviously happy testimonials. I am definitely going to pass along your comments to my cousin who went to a different doctor as she has not had her surgery yet. Thanks!

I will mention this to Dr. Rutledge on Monday at my appt. Before I had this surgery, even before people knew that I had decided to go with Dr. Rutledge, there were many people who highly recommended him. He is straight forward and doesn't make any false promises. You get out of it what you put in it. Plus I like that he has had some much experience, done over 400 of the LAP RNY. In my search for a doctor I did go to Atlanta and met with one doctor who only had done 20 of these surgeries but had observed a few hundred. That doctor is listed on this site. He was a nice person, but I didn't trust him with my life. Let your cousin know that she can contact me if she needs any help or info. Take care

Hi, Thank you for responding to me. Dr. Rutledge was highly recommeded to me as well. I have been to one of his seminars and accually after listening to him, I had change my mind about having the lap-band surgery and decided to go with the RNY. I really liked him and I have a surgery date of 11/20/06. I am suppose to see him on 11/16, I am really nervous. If you don't mind me asking did you have any problems after your surgery? Christie

Congratulations!!!!! I'm so excited for you. I don't mind any question you might have. Personally I didn't have any trouble with the surgery. I went in at 6am on July 11th and was home by 10am July 12th. If I didn't have the incisions and a much smaller appetite I would think I didn't have surgery. I wasn't sore, was able to sleep in my bed since I came home. Are you going to the next support group meeting on Nov 2nd? I would enjoy meeting you. After surgery besides drinking water, taking your vitamins and your protein the best thing that I could tell you to do is to walk. I started walking the day I came home, did a little bit each day and have done a little more as each day goes by. That really helps. If there is anything that I can do to help you, please let me know. Take care, Chris

Hey Chris, Yes, I plan on going to the next meeting, I haven't been to one of the support meetings yet. I would love to meet you as well. I know that everyone is different but that is very comforting to know that you did so well after the surgery. Thanks, and hope to see you there. Christie
