i actually had Dr. Melvin but he is in with Dr. Richards. I got the chocolate whey protein from GNC. I like it pretty well. Vandy will give you samples of Unjury and it is great. it is just a little expensive for me. The 8 days of Carnation Instant Breakfast before surgery was pretty hard for me. Good luck on your surgery. Congratulations.

I've got the protien shakes from Wal-mart, its not to bad. thats great that Vandy gives you the samples. Do you have to have only the carnation or can you have regular food too. I thought that they would put me on an all liquid diet. I meet Dr Richards Wednesday. Can you tell me a bit what to expect when I meet the doctor? Thanks so much, Shelly

Hi Shelly, be careful of what you buy now, what you may like now, may not be tolerated after surgery. Your taste buds will change. Most will tell you not to buy anything now as you may hate it after surgery. My taste buds are constantly changing and I'm almost 9 months out. What I like today may not settle with me in a few days or a week later. It's a trial and error time. So don't go buying a bunch of stuff now, if you do, don't open it and keep the receipt. You may need to take it back. I bought one at Rite-Aid for 10.99, it's unflavored and one scoop is 22 grams. It can be added to soups, meals, drinks, etc. I would tell you the brand, but the mouse made good use of the carton. But they only have one that is for that price. Good luck, you're in my prayers. Hello all! I have had the wonderful experience of surgery (and MANY follow up visits) with Dr. Richards. Dr. Richard's policy is to refer you to his nutritionist (Molly) for any of these questions. She gives you a TON of info and samples. You will have to do around 8 days pre op of no sugar added carnation instant breakfasts. After surgery, it's what you can tolerate. Molly will give you some samples of unjury and matrix. I have never used the samples and don't use either kind. I like the Ready to Drink shakes. Atkins and Slim Fast Low Carb work well for me and some times the EAS low carb. I am glad you are having surgery with Dr. Richards. I have the UTMOST confidence in him. He has the most experience of the Vandy team and trained Dr. Torquati. He knows what he is doing so have no fear goin in. If you have any other questions about the doctor or Vandy just let me know. Thanks everyone for helping me. I say I am not nervous or anything but I am a mixture of a bunch of feeling right now. So if I drive you guys batty with questions I am sorry. I am getting obsessed. Ok deep breath Shelly!!! I only got 2 tubs of the protien stuff I figured It wouldn't hurt anything to start experimenting with them. I will grately appreciate the samples from Vandy. And Eight days of Carnation Yay!!! Oh well Bound to lose those Stubern 10 lbs to get me down to 299. I am so afraid something will go wrong and I will be put off. I am just so afraid this is to good to be true. I wonder if I should take off work the 12 and 13 of October I would asume I will be pretty tired concidering I will be on only the carnation I am sure you feel run down? Well gotta go to bed for now guys I'll check back in tommorrow after work. Bye Shelly
