I was APPROVED!!!
My husband was denied back in april because our insurance requires a six month diet. He has been on the diet and it will be over on 10-02-06. I've posted before that while I was waiting for his diet to be over I decided to take the leap myself. I got all the stuff in order, started the diet and my diet was supposed to be over on 10-2 as well. I called Dr. Boyce's office yesterday to ask if there was anything else that Dean needed before they could resubmit his file and they said just the diet. Then I asked if they needed anything else from me before they could file my initial and she said that she had already filed it on 9-22 and they were waiting on the insurance. I was shocked because I thought they ALWAYS had to have the diet. The coordinator said that John Deere while switching to United Healthcare is letting several slip through the cracks without the diet.
I became nervous and called John Deere to see if they had gotten my request and they put me on hold and came back and said "Mrs. Hall your request was received on 9-22 and approved yesterday." I nearly fell over. I had to have them verify that several times and I called back again just to make sure that two people would tell me the same thing but thank goodness I have fallen through the insurance cracks. now I just have to figure out how to tell my husband that I've been approved and he (who is in worse health and has a much higher bmi) was denied and can't reapply next week.
I love him dearly and I know that he was pretty devastated when he was originally denied. I know this is going to upset him. any suggestions on how to tell him?

Be honest with him, and tell him that maybe right now is not his turn. But do tell him to not give up to keep fighting the insurance system and find out what else they need to approve his surgery. That is the best way. Don't give up, keep fighting for his right to a healthier person and a healthier husband and father. That is most important. Best wishes to you on getting approved. Love kathy
I dotto what Kathy said everything happens in its own time . My mom tried to get her surg when I had mine she still has some things she must get settled halth wise and I am now post op . I do think she NEDDs to see that this is doable and have lots of support when she has hers done . I am now in the position to do that .
