I just went back and looked at my 4 week results. At 4 weeks post-op I had lost 21 lbs. I will be 34 weeks post on Tuesday and as of my weigh in last Tuesday I have lost 83.5 lbs since my surgery date. Try not to focus too much on short term goals. Remember, this is a life change. This is not another diet. I can see and feel the changes that have taken place as my weight goes down. People tell me that I even carry myself differently now. I feel like a new person and I love it! I've always been a very positive person but I find now that I am much happier than I have ever been. Continue to follow your surgeon's instructions and concentrate on learning to listen to your body. This is the time you need to be learning what "full" and "satisfied" feels like so you will know when you have had enough to eat and be able to stop. You also need to be learning about good food choices that will meet your nutritional needs as well as satisfy your cravings. Some foods need to be "off limits" now but will be able to be added back later. May God bless you on your journey. Enjoy the ride! Susan

Hi Teresa, beef, pork, breads, startches, foods high in cards and fat are no no,s for now. You are probably in the soft stages right now, going into the adding hard foods. Just becareful on what you eat. Some foods may not settle with you right now, but will later on. It's a trial and error timeframe. After my first post-op I was down about 30+ lbs, but remember I an also on Chemo. As of my 8 th month out I have lost 116 bls. My BMI is 28.2 now. I only lack 29 more lbs to my goal, but I am happy where I am. Don't compare your progress to others, we all lose it in different amounts. They say it takes a woman anywhere between 4-7 months to lose her first 100 lbs. A man can lose it faster as they build muscle. Just get in your water every day, and don't forget to workout and it will come off. I wish you the best, May God travel with you on this side of the journey. Kathy

Teresa, You are barely a month out and should just be on soft foods. No beef, pork, fried, breads, grains, all that comes after 6 months, some not until your one year anniversary. Don't rush to eat foods in the fast lane. That is what helped you get in the shape you are in now. Take it one day at a time, and check with your Dr. or nutrionist. I am 8.5 months out and still can't handle beef or pork, my system has gotten used to not having the fat the every time I eat something with beef or pork in it, it makes me really sick. Stick to steamed or broiled foods for now. Think of yourself like a newborn. The baby starts out with liquids, then graduates to soft foods, then to addiing more foods, you wouldn't give a newborn beef or bread right off, and it is the same with you. Your pouch is still healing. Eating things that you shouldn't be eating can hurt you more. KFC also has baked chicken instead of friend. When I go to Burger King, I ask for the grilled chicken carb free, that means no bun. Ask for a fork instead. After about 3 bites you should be filling satisfied, that fourth bite can make you throw up read quick. Talk with your surgeon or nutionist about what you can eat now and what not to eat. I'm off to make some oatmeal. Best to you, Kathy

Kathy gave you a good list of foods that should be off limits right now. For ideas of what you can eat if you are out and need to eat: Taco Bell - pintos & cheese, just the way it is served. Wendy's - small chili, just make sure to chew very, very well. Captain D's - broiled fish filet. They will sell you a single broiled filet without all of the side items if you ask. Waffle House - single egg and toast. I get my egg poached so it isn't greasy and can usually eat the entire egg and maybe 1/4 - 1/2 slice of toast. Chili's - cup of broccoli cheese soup. A lot of the time my husband and I will share an entree. We order the chicken crispers meal with steamed broccoli & a side salad instead of the fries and corn. The breading pulls off of their crispers very easily leaving a very moist, flavorfully steamed piece of chicken. I eat one crisper and a couple of broccoli florets and he has the rest. (he also eats the breading I pull off of my crisper. ) I would also recommend broiled or baked fish or seafood from just about any restaurant. The denser meats like steak, roast, pork and ham may not set well in your pouch right now so it's best to stay away from them. Stay away from fried foods too. My nut also told us no rice. She actually said to avoid all "white" starches. That would include white potatoes, pasta, rice, bread, & sugar. I do have a bite of my husband's sweet potato when we eat out. Did your doctor give you a book or list of nutritional guidelines? If you have a list to refer to I think it makes things easier. Like Kathy said, don't compare your rate of weight loss with anyone else. We all lose at different rates. Some of it has to do with how screwed up our metabolism is from all the years of dieting we've done in the past. Medications can also play a big part in how fast or slow we lose, as does age. The thing to remember is that, fast or slow, the weight will come off. Drink your water, add some kind of physical activity to every day, and take your vitamins & supplements. Above all, relax. This isn't a race to see who gets skinny first. We are all winners because we are now LOSERS!!!!!!! Blessings, Susan
