I bought Isopure Dutch Chocolate protein shake mix, only its the Low Carb. Its pretty good. But I am not sure: can I use this after surgery? I thought it was to be zero carb but they didn't have it.

it depends what your surgeon wants you to do... Mine only allowed clear liquids....Isopure in the bottle you can purchase at GNC. They're horrible. But that only lasted a week then I could move onto fuller liquids. Now, my program allows the Nectar protein that you mix with water for the first week of clear liquids after surgery. It is excellent.... I use the fuzzy navel flavor and it is comparable to a orange drink.

Hi Melinda, word of caution, don't be buying a lot of this stuff now, as your taste buds will change after surgery. Things I liked before surgery now make me gag. There are a lot of different ones out there that can range from inexpensive to the outrageous. Since I have errosions in my pouch from my chemo pills, I can't drink anything that is citrus flavored. My recommendation would be to go with the unflavored, you can stick it in your broth, water, sf jello, sf pudding, or anything else. I haven't had to use any protein supplements because I eat a lot of white meat, cottage cheese low fat of course, various juices that have no sugar added but are high in protein, eggs, and my levels are holding good. The more protein you can get in the less your hair will fall out, mine falls out anyways as I'm on Chemo pills for my leukemia. Plus the more protein I get in the more the chemo makes go into my urine. Catch 22. Just be careful about buying too much prior to surgery, you may find one day you can handle something, then the next or a week later, you can't handle it. Trial and error basically. Good luck. Kathy
