New to the site
I am new to the site. I heard about it from a friend that has been a member for a while. I wish I had internet access 3 weeks ago because I really had a lot of questions. I have been staying at my parents and they bought a used computer so that I could get online to talk to others. I had surgery on July 10 and was home by noon on July 12. I had very little pain and was doing great. The hospital staff was impressed. The first week was wonderful then it went down hill by day 12.
I had a stricture that was corrected on Tuesday, August 8. I started out just vomiting every once and a while until I couldn't keep anything down at all. I have not made it to the pureed food stage yet. Still on liquids.
Has anyone else had this happen? Did it only happen once?I am kind of discouraged because I am worried that I wasn't getting enough liquid or protein and that is causing me to lose lean tissue and not just fat. Any ideas on recoup time? Any info will help.
Hi Marie, I can truly understand your frustration. The pouch is still healing and can cause some problems, others don't have any problems but some of us do. Kim Poole is having to deal with an ulcer and her surgery was the day after yours. I had to deal with errosions of my pouch as I am on chemo pills and I had my surgery 7 months ago. I found the best way to deal with the throwing up of everything was to take my pills with a little milk instead of water. It coats the stomach pouch so the pills can't cause errosions, ulcers, or stricture problems. Get it taken care of, and try sipping on some milk when you have to take any meds. You will get past this trust me on that. You have come this far, do get discouraged now. If I can help you in anyway please let me know. I have added you to my prayer list so that you will get better and be able to enjoy your new life as a loser.
May God be with you always, Kathy
(welcome to our wonderful site)
I appreciate your response and encouragement. I am excited to be on your prayer list. I am feeling better today and know that I will continue to improve and be a LOSER.
I pary for everyone that has mael the decision to have WLS. It is not an easy road, but I am trying to look ahead to next year.
Thanks again,
Marie
Hi Marie,
Hang in there. Like Kathy says it will get better. I had my surgery the same day you did at Vanderbilt. Dr. Melvin is my surgeon. I have done great. Came home on the 12 also. I have advanced from liquids to pureed and next Friday the 18th I can go to soft. The only thing that has given me problems is bread. I cheated and paid for it. I won't do that again. Sorry to hear about your problems but just hang in there. We can do this, I know we can. I will be praying for you......Terry
Boy, Dr. Melvin must have been Speedy Gonzalez on that day. I didnt know they did more than one surgery. I am glad you are still doing well. I can't wait to move to pureed foods. I will be about 4 weeks behind on the schedule Molly gave us because of the stricture, but I am fine with that. As long as I dont get another stricture.
It will be exciting to see how we progress. Good luck on the soft foods. MMMM chicken. I cant wait. :)
I guess he was but he's wonderful isn't he!! If fact everybody was wonderful. My surgery was at 11:00. You must have been the early bird. Sure hope you don't get any more strictures. I know that can't be fun. How much have you lost so far?? Please keep me posted on your progress. It'll be fun following each other since it was the same day, same hospital, same doctor. BTW, which room were you in after surgery. We must have been very near the helipad. I could hear the helicopters all day and night but it really wasn't a bother. Take care and keep me posted.........
