psych eval!!!!
I have been a lurker on here for a few months now and I use to post pretty regularly until the process for me stalled. Well the psych apt was the last on my list. I went to see him at Vandy on the 25th of July. I sat and talked with him for maybe 15 minutes, and then was asked to take a 550 question test. I finished the test and went back into the Dr's office and he told me I was free to go and that he didn't see any reason for me not to persue this.. Well on the following THursday someone calls me and say's the only other thing I need was my PCP letter, I get that fax and so we are good to go, Then on Monday of this week someone calls and says they are sending my chart to the surgery sceduling dept, and someone would call by the end of the week. So I wait. And the Tuesday I get a call from the Nurse telling me that the Psych Dr thinks I need to wait 6 months...... Crap! considering I have already waited a year. So all day I am bummed out and then I get another call that if I get into thepey and get an ok from a therepist that will contenue treatment. ( you know for those monents that every wls undergoer goes through) then I can go forward!!!!! I found a therepist and am going to go for a new psych Eval on the 8th so wish me luck. and I want to ask if some of you all will tell me what your psych eval was like?
Thanks
Shelly

I had my psych evaluation done by a lady whose name I cannot remember right now. She was recommended to me by Jennifer Ginnings @ Vanderbilt. There was no written test!! Just an oral evaluation and as soon as she was through, she emailed the "go ahead" while I was still in her office. You may want to call Jennifer @ 615-343-8988. Good luck!
You might have said, but I forgot what insurance you have... Blue Cross has now started making several tests mandatory, including an eating aptitudes test, an iq test, and of course the MMPI II that you already took.
I liked my psychologist. He was very open, friendly, overall just a nice guy who was very professional but still let his own personality show through. Maybe you should contact the psych dr's office and talk with him to find out what else you can do? Or ask your surgeon's office what can be done. good luck!! I am still in the process of getting my approval from BC so keep me in mind too!
Man Shelly, I know I would be very mad too!
My psyc. Eval. was LONG! all those bubbles to fill in! I thought I was done doing those types of tests when I graduated school! The person I saw after my pshyc. eval told me that he sees people who basically "make themselves look good" and he told me I really tried to make myself look good. That really made me MAD! He didn't even know me & I am a very honest person and for him to make that assumption about me! A person who can't even give a RX! Once you are done doing the eval. you don't have to worry abouth them anymore; even at the meetings you don't have to see or talk to them. I am so sorry to hear that this has happened to you & I know things will work out for you, especially now that you have found a new psych. BTW, I went to Centennial. Don't know if that means much but i see you are going to vandy.
