I posted this over in the Lap band forum but thought I would post over here as well since this is the Tennessee forum and I am in Knoxville. I am hoping to have Lap Band surgery with Dr. Boyce (haven't had the consultation yet). I would prefer to go home the same day as I read that someone else had done over at the other forum. It is my understanding that Dr. Boyce requires an overnight stay for Lap Band surgery. Does anybody know if that is the case and if he might be flexible ??? Thanks so much, Blondi

Good morning Blondi , yes i have seen some posts about going home the same day with lap band but most Drs require an overrnight stay. I asked about this at the semeniar in Nashville and the Dr said the hospitals wanted to make some money and they are the ones insisting overnights stays not them so who knows?? anyway all who have had surgey for lap band in tenn have overnites as far s I know Arianna

I can't speak to the lap band surgery as I had rny. I also don't have any experience with your surgeon but you best bet is to ask. I can tell you that you will get better pain management drugs if you stay overnight. They won't give you the heavy duty stuff if they are sending you home right away.

I had lapband surgery at Vanderbilt and they require an overnight stay also, it is still considered day surgery, it is 23 hours and hold.....which means, you are discharged after 23 hours, but they are holding your discharge........I had surgery at 1pm and was discharged at 8 am. They said is was so they could monitor me, my fluid intake, make sure I was able to get up and walk etc...... Witht he 23 hours and hold there is no additional charge for overnight stay, it is considered and billed under day surgery......I was lucky my insurance covered surgery and my doctor's fee 100% because it was day surgery. My sister in Memphis, was discharged 4 hours after surgery, go figure, each dr. has its on way of doing things.

Dr. Boyce was my doc and he his OVERLY protective. I'm sure that he will require an overnight stay. I talked to him about the Lapband but he did not really talk like he wanted to do it. He prefers the bypass. When I had my surgery, he had only done one Lapband. He may have done more by now. He kinda guided me away from the band. Good luck!

Hey Blondi, My doc sent me home a few hours after surgery. I had surgery at about 10am and went home at about 3pm the same day. I can't speak for your surgeon or the requirements of the hospital he uses, so you may want to call and ask his office staff if possible. HTH, Trisha
