Dr. Spaw in the Metabolic Surgery Center at Baptist still does the DS and he does it lap. He and Dr. Husted used to be in practice together. He was actually the lap expert in their practice. I know he is taking new patients now. Dr. Spaw was my surgeon and I would highly recommend him to anyone. Also, the aftercare at MSC is wonderful! It would be a lot closer to home if you wanted to do more research before you commit to going all the way to NC for surgery. You're right about the surgeons at Centennial, none of them do the DS. Hi Susan, Thank you for telling me about that. I had no idea. I'm actually researching that now. I thought when Dr. Husted left, there was no one left in Nashville. I'm going to call them on Monday, see if they take my insurance. I guess that would be the deciding factor. Thanks, Myranda

Hi Myranda, Yes, it is something that will save your life. I'd say a cop-out would be if we did nothing at all and allowed ourselves to stop enjoying life and go to an early grave! More power to ya....do what's best for you and don't worry about what anyone else thinks! Melodie

Well, I have to admit, I haven't told my in-laws and probably never will. My husband's side of the family are all naturally skinny, can eat whatever they want, and I know they'd never understand! We hardly ever see them anyway, so I never even considered telling them. I'm so sorry you had such a terrible time with the girls at school. Some people can be so rude and uncaring. Your "skinny friend" is probably no friend at all. All of my friends have been understanding and rooting for me. I hope you can find some to help you through this process too, I know all of us at OH are on your side!!! In the meantime, I don't blame you for keeping it to yourself. Melodie

I went to Dr. George Lynch who is in Nashville, now in with Dr.Spaw.But I had heard so many good things about Dr. Spaw and I have chosen him as my surgeon. As soon as I complete the 3 month weight loss program required through my employer, and lose the dreaded 10%, I will go see Dr. Spaw. Not certain yet as to what surgery. Does Dr.Spaw do fobi pouch? A friend was telling me about that one. I chose not to tell anyone, but then I got so excited about exercising each day and choosing to work on ME, such as grow out my hair, finger nails, and get a tan before surgery, and lost a few pounds on my own, I just couldn't contain it anymore. I say this in all kindness. I'm just the type that if I choose to do something, no one can sway me... and if they should try to talk me out of it, I just automatically tune them out. End of conversation... even if it appears that I am still present and listening. I have had a few people with negative reactions, and one really was out of concern from a coworker only because she had a prevoius coworker who died a year later after her surgery. But she is still supportive as she knows it will help my health and well being. My mother cannot wait tl I have surgery. Of course, we can count on our mother to say "You are beautiful regardless, but you would feel so much better. I can't wait to see you lose the weight." I agree.
