restaurant w/ a decent kid's menu
Hubby and I went to The Blackeyed Pea last night. Their kiddie menu actually has some healthy food on it!
For $3.99 I got meatloaf and 2 vegetables. The portion was a reasonable adult portion instead of the massive amounts usually served. I got a slice of meatloaf about 2 1/2 by 5 and about 1 1/2 inches thick, about 3/4 - 1 cup of turnip greens and what looked like almost 1/2 a bunch of broccoli. I could eat on this for a week!
I didn't even have to show my surgery card to order from the kiddie menu. I just told the server what I wanted. I think he knew something was up though when I asked for the take out box and put what looked like my entire dinner in it.
He had seen me taking bites when he came back to check on us so he knew I ate SOME of it.
They also have grilled chicken tenders, their roast beef and I don't remember what else on the kiddie menu.

Hey Susan,
So where is this Black Eyed Pea? I know it's a chain, but don't think there's one on the West side. Am willing to travel! Did the meatloaf have a lot of green peppers and onions? (I still like them, but they don't like me!)
BTW, I had seen your post regarding dill relish in chicken/tuna salad. I like dill, but I also found a Krogers brand "sweetened with Slenda" pickle. It is not in relish form so has to be chopped, but it's pretty tasty with other food. Alone I could taste the Splenda, but no aftertaste when eaten with something else.

Hey Angela,
The Blackeyed Pea is on Gallatin Road in Hendersonville. The meatloaf was wonderful. It had a little bit of onion, not much, I don't recall any green pepper in it. It did have a sauce on top that had chunks of tomato, onion and green pepper but I raked that off.
I'll have to look for the Splenda sweetened pickles. I've been making my own SF sweet pickles for several years (one of those old Weigh****chers tricks). I just didn't feel like chopping up a pickle just to make a dab of chicken or tuna salad for me. I guess if I were to chop a whole jar I'd have it then for whatever I want to use it in.
Hope you're doing okay.
Susan
How did your insides feel when eating the Meatloaf? I took two bites the other day of something with hamburger in it, and was sicker then a rapid dog. I go to Krogers and get their ground chicken. Can't tell a bit of difference with the chicken vs the beef, as far as flavor goes. I can tell the difference with groung turkey. gag
I use the ground chicken in anything that you would use hamburger for, less fat, and works great. No one has noticed the difference when I would make spaghetti, hot dog sauce, or my cowboy beans. At Krogers it's 2.99 a lb, but well worth it when it has hardly no fat, and I am not
ing it back up. The only time I even think about beef is if I'm constipated from the Magnesium pills I have to take. Need to go, glad you found a place where you can eat and still be able to enjoy it.
Love Kathy
