Carbonated Drinks???
Hey guys,
I wanted to know when we are allowed to drink anything with carbonation again? I must admit that I have acquired a taste for water since surgery (don't really have much of a choice huh?) but....a diet dr.pepper sure sounds good!!!

Hi and your nutrionist will tell you no on the carbonated drinks, they will make your pouch cramp and make you very sick. Maybe in about 30 years you may find you can handle a sip, but even when I had a sip of one Zero Sprite, I was sick all night with cramps. That was just recently and come next week I will be 5 months out.. It is not recommended at all. Today I took a sip, and found I didn't want any more. I am sticking to water, tea decafe with splenda, lemonade with splenda, or natural fruit juices. No sugar added type. I miss sprakling grape juice but I don't miss the cramps one bit. For the time being, don't even think about it. Talk with your nutrionist and see what he/she has to say regarding this subject. I was going to stop and get me a Root Beer as I have Bryers Root Beer Float Ice Cream, doesn't bother me one bit, so I was going to add the ice cream to a liquid root beer, but that little voice in my head said cramps cramps cramps. The thought made me almost sick just thinking about it.
Your pouch is still healing, so you don't want to add carbonation to irrate your pouch. When you find out post so we will know too. Love ya, Toi, hang in there and keep losing. Kathy
Thanks guys. I've actually heard about the "flat" pop. I let a diet dr.pepper sit in the fridge all day and that night I swished it around in the cup to listen for the sizzle. It was like diet dr.pepper without the PUNCH
It didn't bother me at all but I know I shouldn't pu**** It's just that sometimes I get tired of water and SF kool aid or crystal lite. I haven't had a good burb in a while.......

Hi. My nutrionist told me about a patient who had the surgery, then year or two later started drinking the carbonated drinks. Another year or so went by and she was having some trouble (not sure what) but when the surgeon got inside of her, the pouch had blown open and all of the food that she had been eating was piling up inside her body, and causing infections. Which makes sense, between the acid and the carbonation it seems like it could weaken the site where the pouch was made.
Hope this helps. Take care.
My surgeon suggested avoiding carbinated drinks however she stated that if it was something that I just couldn't do without to atleast wait until I was 6 months out before trying to drink them. The carbonation in them can cause gas in the pouch. I am a little over two yrs out and will drink a soda every once in a while. I mostly stick to teas and lemonade otherwise.
