I am getting my duckies lined up to begin the process. Exactly what is the pysch evaluation? Does anyone know what personality tests are given? I really hate this kind of stuff & I thru the touchy-feely stuff many years ago. I like my family & don't really want to go back to crap from my youth -again.

Hi, My pysch eval was nothing to it. Karen Starr did mine and she just ask a few questions. She really didn't get very personal.

Hi C. A. the psych evaluation may consist of a test, some do this, some don't. Then the psych will ask you questions regarding home much you know about the surgery, how it will affect your life after surgery. They will either tell you that they are recommending you for surgery, or they will inform the surgeon that you need more councelling. I have one tell me I wasn't qualified, another said I needed more therapy, and one said I was unstable and couldn't handle recovery or the life afterwards. I think I proved them wrong. What ever the psych tells your surgeon will either get you denied or approved, the final say is up to the surgeon. I can keep you in my prayers that everything will go in your favor. May God travel with you on this journey. Always, Kathy

Hello C.A. Psych doctor's request a test and talking to asked you about what your hopes are for the surgery. They also asked you if you ever been at therapy before. If you have to tell them it was years ago. Never tell them that you were molested when you were younger and you needed therapy for that.ex. They will still think something is wrong with you still. Just tell them it was years ago and when you were younger and you can not remember who you saw. Because you do not want them to judge you for something that happened in your pass. Also try to be postive and talk about your health and your dreams and hopes. They will ask you what is the most postive thing about this surgery or what is the worst thing that could happen to you about the surgery. And they will warn you that men will look at you more and that women and your female friends will start becoming jealous of you too. And one more question is what does your family think of the surgery and do you have any support groups or someone who you can talk too. And some therapist will ask you , have you joined a WLS group in your area and get a therapist atfer your surgery so you will be ready for the mood changes during your weight loss. Some insurance companies do not care if you have a written test. Just be in a good mood and always smile. Inform them that you are here for the WLS psych Evaluation. All questions must be around the surgery and not your everyday life or if you have an attention problem. If that happens go to another therapist.. And call your insurance company and let them know about that type of therapist. I learned too late. But I went to one Dr. Barbara Hanning. She was a good therapist. I had two visits so she could get to know me more and I passed, all questions revolved around my WLS. But do not go to one Dr. Jani. He thinks that everyone has a problem and he ask's questions that even a therapist is not suppose to asked and that could shame you. I went to him the first time and he failed me and did not asked me on single question about my surgery. And he gave me tests on Attention problems. I called my insurance company and reported him. I then asked my insurance company who in this state and in the area around where I live is Qualfied to give the WLS psych evaluation. I was given five name and I picked on Dr. Barbara Hanning and I passed in two visits. She is real good. But go with the one you feel good about. It is always nice to talk a little on the phone to see if you will feel a good vibe from them, and pick that one you are postive about. I hope I have helped you some. Your friend, Tina
