Any one whos had surgery after having acid reflux surgery in TN.
Hi Darlene, I had acid reflux very badly pre-op...and had had it for many years. My surgeon requires an EGD before surgery since it is the last time anyone can actually see the whole stomach without doing exploratory surgery and it was a good thing. Because of having been on Prevacid/Nexium/etc for so many years pre-op, I had many little cysts inside my stomach. He removed them for a biopsy and they turned out to be no big deal, but it was better to be safe than sorry. Dr. Huerta fixed my hiatal hernia during my RNY and I haven't had any problems since. Most surgeons will put you on a regimen of antacids/acid reducers post-op, just to be safe, but since they are already in there, they usually fix the hiatal hernia.
I don't know what your question was, but I hope this helps...
