Greetings To All My Friends, I have a question or two for all of you who are considering surgery for your weight loss needs and health needs and reasons... What would be the first thing you would do atfer you had your surgery? As a heavy person all my life I have not thought about much of what will happen to me atfer my sugury. But what do you all think is going to happen to you atfer you have your surgery. What do you intend to do atfer you had your surgery that you have dreamed all your life to do? Do you all think that your whole life is going to change you all inside and out? Thank you all for taking the time to answer this questions that I have placed upon you all. I would really like to know. Many people did not have a chance to really express themselves when they had their evualations for fear it would cause them to fail. I am here to listen and really would like to find what makes us want to have this surgery and more. I am not passing judgements on any of my friends here at obesity help, I am an over weight woman who is going for the gastric bypass surgery. But I would like to know why we the over weight want this type of surgeries and What are those dreams we dream of when we go for these types of surgeries. Please friends answer my questions and take your time and make them as long as you want or short. I am always interested in what people have to say. And thank you all for taking the time to read my post and answering it or not totally up to you. Your friend, Tina

Hi Tina, let's see I wanted to walk again, now I can, I wanted to be able to play with my grandson (18 months old), I got to do that this weekend. To be able to get down on the floor and getting his hugs to be able to lift him up to play with the chimes. The ability to get into my mini van without help, to mop a floor or changes the sheets without help. To be able to do my own errands. To have the strength to get up every day and to fight the leukemia. To get in shape to have a better life without having to stop every few minutes to catch my breath. There are more, but as a post-op each day is a surprise on new things. Love Kathy

Tina, as you know I am post-op. I want to answer your question tho. I wanted to live. I felt like I was slowly dying. I want to ride a bike w/ my granddaughter. I could go on & On but I won't. There are so many things that we want to do, It would be hard to answer them all. I am speaking for myself here. I know that soon things will be almost back to normal for me as I am still a little sore. I hope things go as well for you as it has for me. Sara.

Hi Tina, Before my susrgery, my toughts were of being able to walk with my knees killing me, being able to sleep on my sides, without my hips killing me. I will admit to some vanity also, because I wanted to look NORMAL, not skinny, not beautiful, just NORMAL. I got it all...and my gr'son hugging me and saying ,Mamaw..I can hug you all around and have arms left over !!.....he gugs me around my waist, he's 10. There is nothing I can't try...can't do a hula hoop yet, but couldn't do one when i was a kid either !!lol Billie

Tina, The #1 reason for me was to have improved health and being able to return to work. Just knowing that I am going to be around to see my kids grow up, has made the WLS all worthwhile. Hugs, Lori

Hi Tina! I hope all is going well with you! I am hoping to become so much healthier after this surgery. Getting diagnosed with Diabetes and sleep apnea (among other things) and then being told that my weight was the reason I wasn't able to conceive children all in one year threw me into researching this surgery. Now, I am more dedicated than ever. My ultimate goal is to stop being sick and tired all of the time. I am also looking forward to having a baby and a family with my husband once I do become healthy. Of course I would be lying if I didn't say I though about other things as well. Outside of becoming healthy, I would love to be more active with my husband (who is thin). He loves going to amusement parks and other things I am not able to do right now. I would like to do something crazy like go Sky diving if I get to my goal weight or try out for Amazing Race! But like most people, my ultimate goal is to become healthy so I can live a long life. I am scared of dying before I even turn 30. Talk to you later. Misty

My goals were/are to.. *Get my diabetes outta here! *Get the high blood pressure outta here! *Be comfortable being active. Not have all the aches and pains. *Finally, once and for all, deal with my food issues. Those were the biggies. There are several smaller goals I'd like to hit. I want to go hang-gliding, travel, scuba diving, run the Music City Half-Marathon, do the Susan G. Komen three day race, etc. I'm so pumped and confident about my decision. It's amazing...
