Meeting with Dr. Torquati today...
Hey!!! Well my date is getting closer and closer, I'm nervous and excited. Sunday was my fairwell to soda. Which was really sad cause, I'm a big Coke drinker. I had a large coke from Sonic with extra, extra, cherries and that is it.... Today I am saying bye to solid foods... well for a while anyway, hehehe. I start my liquids on Wed. so today Ima have to remember to get my CIB's at Walmart!!! I have two appts this morning one is my pre-op blood work ( ouch! they can never get my vain ) And then I also have one where I meet Dr. Torquati, so things are just moving right along!!! I feel like I have learned so much about this surgery and I have talked to so many people ( on here and in support group ) that I can't even think of anything to ask him!!! I'm not saying that i'm an expert, but... lol, I can't think of anything!!! Welp, I'm gonna go get ready to go.
Luv,
Jacqueline
Hi Jacqueline, 9 more days wow, it is coming up and I know that we are all just thrilled for you, I know I am. I can't wait for you to become a loser. I know you will do fine, and really try to get in all your liquids. I still have a problem of getting in 64 ozs of water. But I do what I can and that's all that is expected of me, is to do what I can and to do it the best way possible. Be sure to take you a small fan for your room. One, it makes the room not so stuffy and hot feeling, but it helps to sleep by drowning out the hall noises.
We'll talk again before the 18th. That's my younger son's 4th anniversary, and my best friends 14th anniversary. So that day makes it all the more special as you become a loser that day.
May God travel with you on this next step in your journey. Love Kathy
Hey Kathy! Thank you for being so supportive. I've been trying to get a mental list together of things that I will need to pack for surgery. I know I will take my little fan, I tend to get hot under normal conditions so I know that I will need it. My huband has taken a week from work to be there with me the day before and then after. Plus my mother in law lives with us so I will have her help for the time being after surgery, I'm really nervous and really excited. I know you said that you get all your protein from foods now, but what did you do right after surgery? Shakes? The taster pack I bought came in the mail today, it was really cute and they smell good but.... taste? I guess that we will see!!!
Luv Ya,
Jacqueline
Hey Jacqueline,
It's the strangest thing, I am in Nasvhille today and tomorrow! I had my preop with anesthesia (ekg and blood work) today and have nutrition tomorrow afternoon. I am glad you feel prepared.
I am sorry to say that I do not. I haven't even met Dr. Richards yet. No one has told me anything about a pre-op diet other than i should lose 15-30 pounds before surgery (this was a month ago) I haven't lost any so I don't know if that's bad or what. I have so many remaining questions and I feel a bit abandon by the staff at Vanderbilt since getting approval and a date.
Rachael
Hey Rachael,
Geez, If I would have known you were at Vandy yesterday too, we could have gotten together for lunch or something!!! I spent almost the whole day there, everything took so long, I have my anesthesia appt and then my meeting with Dr. Torquati. Both went great, I felt really comfortable with him. I'm sure you feel better after meeting with Molly today. That's were a lot of my questions were answered. I'm sure you already know by now about the pre-op diet. ( 8 days of Carnation Instant Breakfasts ) I thought that sounded bad, but then with my meeting with Dr. Torquati he told me that the day before surgery only clear liquids and then nothing after midnight. Also he told me no asprin or like products for 10 before surgery ( cause it thins out your blood I guess ) Anyway I'm day one of only CIB, and I'm really hungery. Mostly head hunger though, I keep thinking about a double cheeseburger with fries, lol. Anyway I hope everything went well, and you got some things answered!!!
Jacqueline

Jacqueline,
Oh yeah, I met Molly and her CIB diet! She said to expect headaches. Feeling them yet? I am feeling a bit better after today. She said we should take tylenol for our headaches during the pre op diet. Did Dr. Torquati say anything about tylenol or just asprin?
I hope it goes well the next few days for you. Let me know so I can support ya before I do it and get a cranky.
Rachael
Hey Rachael, I think we're good with tylenol because he just talked about asprin. I am for sure feeling the headaches today!!! I'm trying to take walks about keep busy so I don't dwell on the fact that I am sooooo hungery!!! I sent my mother in-law out to get me some broth, and hopefully that will make me feel better!!! Good luck, you start your diet in a few days huh?
