Topic: Hi! I am new to this site :)
Hello everyone. I am new to this site. I read what members have posted and sure appreciate all the information and experiences shared here. I am in the process of getting a surgery date with Dr. Kuri. I am looking at Nov/08 if possible. I should find out soon and am very excited about getting the lap band surgery. I met Shirley in P.A. when she gave a presentation and am working with her and her husband in arranging everything with my surgery. I am a diabetic and need to get the weight off for my health and b/c I need to be here to raise my children and I hope, one day, spend time with my grandkids :-) Nice to meet everyone.

Hi Elaine, I've been wondering about you lately. I'm very happy that you have your surgery date, you must be getting excited already. I wish I could make the trip to Saskatoon this weekend. I'm sure you'll learn a lot and will feel more at ease when you go to Mexico after having met Dr Kuri. Have a great weekend and take care. Betty

Hi Larry I had my surgery on Aug 6th and having my first fill Sept 22. I see you are from Saskatoon and Dr. Kuri is going to be in Saskatoon doing a seminar on Sept 22/07 at Best Western 1-7 no charge to go but will be very informational. Registratin is at 1-130 and Dr. Kuri will be speaking to everyone 1:30-2:00 and then new people at 2:00-3:00 Then the new people will meet with the co-ordinators for Sask. they help you make arrangements & schedule surgery when you are ready. If you want more information you can go to www.lapbandsask.com & shirley will be able to help you. Hope to see you there Larry I think it will be more assuring for you if you can meet the Doctor himself. It has been a very exciting adventure. I have lost 12lbs in the 6 weeks without my fill and little exercise as I am in the healing stage & lost 14.5 pre-op, so 26.5 lbs is gone forever. I have the tool now to control my eating and as far as the money I look at it as an investment in my & my family's future. Things were not looking good in the direction I was going but I feel much better about myself and my life & that there is a futre ahead... I still have a long way to go but I can see ahead now. Penny

Hello Chris I am an R.N. and I had lapband surgery 3 years ago in Tijuana, Mexico, by Dr. Lopez Corvala. He is one of the proctors for Inamed the manufacturer of the Lapband. This means that he has taught surgeons all over the U.S.A. and Mexico how to perform the procedure. It was this credential that led me to choose him as my surgeon. He also has a great team including a psychologist, nutritionists, etc. I also do the "fills" for lapband patients in Saskatchewan, regardless of who did their surgery. We are having a free information meeting on Sept. 15th at Royal University Hospital. Call me if you'd like to register: 306-373-1879.

Ask an R.N. about weight loss surgery! I've had lapband surgery 3 years ago in Mexico. I am trained to perform the lapband "fills". At the meeting we'll discuss the surgery, the costs in Canada versus Mexico, the pros and cons of the surgery, and other related topics!! Come on Sept. 15th at 10:00 a.m. at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. Call me to register: 306-373-1879.

Topic: RE: new here, wondering about surgery costs
Hello Arlene I am an R.N. in Saskatoon and I had lapband surgery in Mexico 3 years ago. Currently I do the lapband "fills" here for patients of the Toronto surgeons and the Mexican surgeons. I know that the surgeon in Toronto trained 2 surgeons in Calgary but they are only allowed to do 50 procedures per year and only for people living in Calgary. There is a surgeon in Edmonton but there is a 2 -3 years waiting list and I believe only takes Alberta residents. If you're interested in hearing about the Mexican surgeons, contact me at: [email protected]. The surgeons there and the facilities are top notch and hi-tech and the price is half what the Toronto surgeons charge.
