Topic: RE: looking for the nurse who does fills in Saskatoon
Diane,
The B.C. stands for Baja California, not British Columbia. But, yes, there is only one Dr. Kuri and he lives in Tijuana, BC.

You are looking great! I have not logged in for some time since I seemed to be waiting forever for my referrals. I finally got in to see the dietician last month. Things went well. I was actually surprised that I had weighed less than I expected. I have another follow up next week. I don't know my weight seems to really fluctuate. I am down then back up and down again. The hardest change has been incorporating exercise. I am certainly not consistent in this respect.
I just wanted to take a few moments to congratulate you on your success. It is very inspirational to see the progress. Keep it up!

Topic: RE: Saskatchewan Bariatric Surgery Support Group - Regina meetings!
Sorry, your email went to my spam. Yes, group is still running. Contact Hilary Dahnke at 569 1372 - she's the new President of the SBSSG. Also check out http://www.sbssg.ca/index.htm it's the website for the group, but I am emailing them as it needs to be updated
Topic: RE: Can you get lap band surgery in Saskatchewan?
Hi Kathy, I won't say definately not, but you're unlikely to qualify with a BMI of 30, unless you have a lot of co-morbidities - high blood pressure, diabetes etc. Even if you did, you'd have a very long wait to get surgery here. You could go to Ontario or the US or Mexico if you want to pay yourself. I went to Tijuana Mexico for mine and have no regrets, cost much less than the other places. Good luck with your search.

Topic: RE: to all sask. lapband & gastric seekers
Hi Penny & Kathy!
How are you doing Penny? I have been stuck at the same weight for about 3 weeks now and nothing I do seems to budge it! I think it is time for a fill again. A friend of mine is getting her surgery by Dr. Kuri later on in February (when she gets her passport) and she is paying for my flight to go down with her! I am so excited to see Dr. Kuri again and get a fill and fluro from him at the same time!
Kathy - welcome to the world of LapBand! If you make your choice to go down to Mexico - you won't be disappointed! It really is the start of a new life! I know from my experience - I just felt better about myself even just after surgery! It may cost a little bit but to me I am worth it.
Sorry for the ramblings!
I wish you good luck in your decision! Penny I hope things are going better for you!
Let me know how you are doing!!

Arlene, what can you tell me about going to Dr. Kuri? Was it expensive? If my BMI is 30, is that high enough to qualify? I am very new to this whole thing, but a girl at work has had SOMETHING done, which she won't talk about, but she was gone for a year and she looks GREAT!!! Fill me in on a few details if you can.

Tess, is this group still going? How can a person find out more?
Topic: RE: to all sask. lapband & gastric seekers
Hi Kathy I am sure a BMI of 30 something would qualify. Sask is so out of touch with the world it hurts....in my job I talk to some of the big wigs in Sask Health & they all agree that they could be saving themselves money but they can not seem to keep doctors around who will perform such surrgery. Shirley Bergen is a co-ordinator for Dr. Kuri in Mexico & she lives @ Little Bear Sask. She helps you get in touch with Dr. Kuri and arranging appointments. It is a very clean & beautiful hospital, they are very professional and Dr, Kuri is very approachable. I am going to claim the cost of surgery & travel on my income tax to see what will happen. The cost was $8000.00 us and your flights. In ontario & Quebec it is 18000.00 plus flights. There are 2 nurses in Saskatoon that do fills @ 50.00 each. You can reach Shirley at her E-mail address (she is away right now) [email protected] & she will get back to you rather quickly, she checks her e-mails daily. Hope I have been of help to you... Good luck with your journey. Penny

Hi Penny. I am brand new. Do you think with a BMI of 30.something I would qualify for lap band surgery? How much does it cost in Mexico? Any helpful info you can give me? Saskatchewan is like living in the 50's or something. We are WAY behind everybody else. Obesity surgery could probably save them lots of health care costs that will otherwise be incurred because of the obesity in the first place. Look forwart to hearing from you!
