I really hope this is an isolated case of Surgeons turning away patients.
Topic: DR FARRIES NO LONGER TAKING REFERRALS FROM SASKATCHEWAN DOCTORS
Just some info for those seking a baratric surgeron
so here is the deal my family doctor recieved a letter from dr farries stating he will no longer accepting referrals for saskatchewan clients
so I just thought I would get the word out there and hopefully people needing help will not was any time seekng out his services, that would be presious time wasted, when one is battling for there life
it is a shame because I did have my surgery preformed by dr farries and he was excellant I would refer him to any one I knew need help
but sadly he must be swamped with clients

Topic: Results of the SBSSG July Support Group Meeting!
Hello all.
Well, we had a few people come out for our Support Group Meeting. More is always better, BUT the before, after, and during discussion was well worth it alone! We added a couple of new members and even opened discussions to fill our vacant position as Central Saskatchewan Surgery Support Group Committee Chair. Very exciting!
Our guest speaker on Saturday was Kristen Miller, Assistant Coordinator of the Cardiac Rehabilitation, Risk Reduction, and Chronic Disease Prevention Program through the Dr. Paul Schwann Centre(http://www.uregina.ca/dpsc/). The Dr. Paul Schwann Centre is a health and wellness solutions based facility located on the Campus of The University of Regina with a well established reputation for providing quality programming by highly qualified personnel.
She spoke about Weight Management, Cardiac/Heart Attack Symptoms in Women vs Men, How Long is Long Enough? (discussed the lengths of time your heart has to be above resting rate to benefit you), and the announcement of our partnership with Phyllis Bend, Coordinator of the Cardiac Rehabilitation, Risk Reduction, and Chronic Disease Prevention Program in the Dr. Paul Schwann Centre and The Saskatchewan Bariatric Surgery Support Group Walking Club.
The Walking Club will track number of steps, kilometres walked, or laps completed, so you know your limits and what you can do to push past them. Depending on your risk factors, you may be asked to keep track of your Blood Pressure and Heart Rate, both before and after walking.
One great feature for obese individuals and all people of size is that the Dr. Paul Schwann Centre's emphasis is on BodySense. (http://www.bodysense.ca/index_e.html) To foster an environment where all people of size can exercise together, BodySense believes that an affirmative sport environment can facilitate in the development of positive character traits: perseverance, responsibility, a strong sense of self and body, and integrity as well as values like fairness, fitness, friendship, and fun. No one ever has to be afraid to get fit.
Regardless, The meeting went well and I look forward to even more Saskatchewanites and anyone else who wants to make the trip at our next meeting on August 9th... Same Bat Time, Same Bat Channel.
Check out www.sbssg.ca for more details under the Calendar.

Cheers, Laureen
