Hello,
I had VSG with Dr Alvarez last Nov.  He was great.  I've lost nearly 60 pounds and am very very happy!  I live between Regina & Saskatoon.  If you should have any questions about my experience please feel free to ask.

Yes I did try to see Dr. Colqhoun, but he had gotten sick before I could see him. I am from Manitoba and there is no bariaric help here what so ever. I have a referral to see Dr. Savoie in Bathurts New Brunswick. I am wanting to have the DS surgery. I wish all of the provinces would get on board and start getting bariatric surgeons and clinics opened across Canada.

Thanks for your reply Stephanie

Hi Steph.

Currently, Saskatchewan has a Bariatric Surgical Assessment Clinic with a Multi-Disciplinary Team of Specialists to determine eligibility for Weight Loss Surgery in Saskatchewan.

The Surgery currently being offered is the Roux-n-Y, and that is currently all.

Dr. Brian Colquhoun and Dr. Gary Groot of Saskatoon had been performing the Duodenal Switch Surgery up until Dr. Colquhoun's retirement due to health reasons in 2006.

hello Joel.  My name is Stephanie and I am from Manitoba. Right now I am on a waiting list to see Dr. Savoie in New Brunswick for weight loss surgery. I was wondering if you know how to get Manitoba medical community to see how badly we need a bariatric surgeon and clinic in Manitoba. I know Winnipeg has a private clinic, but that is just not good enough. I really wonder if they realize how beneficial weight loss surgery is to the medical society? Just letting some steam off, thanks for listening.

Talk to you soon, Stephanie

Hello oh2bthinagain,

I apologize for not getting back to you sooner.

I've been meeting with the Ministry of Health, and soon the RQHR, and all I cna say right now is that I am very hopeful the right choice will be made for Saskatchewan.

As for the sleeve, I only know what I've learned on here. There is a Sleeve Forum and I would recommend you searching there, as I have no experience witht eh Sleeve... yet. Now, I will do some more research so I am fully informed, so thank you for your question.

I spoke to Dr. Alvarez's assistant, Susan and she said the swine flu is a non issue. I was wondering if you checked out anyone in Canada that does the sleeve surgery and if so, what did you find and what are the costs? I can't seem to find any info. I am from Manitoba. Thanks
