Statement on status of Saskatchewan's Bariatric Surgical Assessment Clinic
We, the Board of Directors for the Saskatchewan Bariatric Surgery Support Group (SBSSG), have spent a lot of time over the last year meeting collaboratively with representatives of the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region (RQHR) and the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health (MoH). Saskatchewan's Bariatric Surgical Assessment Clinic Pilot Project was a huge success, and although we are unable to make a formal statement on behalf of the RQHR, after meeting with them earlier this week, we know we are able to say a few things for sure...
The RQHR and the MoH are in the process of finalizing permanent funding, so the program can continue to operate in Regina. Once this has been finalized, you can expect to hear the formal, public announcement. Over the next few months, the Assessment Clinic and Program will be going through a transition stage.
They will be moving, and some of the multi-disciplinary staff will be changing. New patients will not be entering the program until fall, however current patients will continue to be seen by program staff throughout the summer and surgeries will continue as scheduled.
The RQHR is in the process of finalizing a new location for the Assessment Clinic and we have faith that if all goes according to plan - although the transition stage may be difficult for some - the new and improved Bariatric Surgical Assessment Clinic will be well worth the wait!
This is all the information we have, and I trust it will answer all of your questions about the Bariatric Surgical Assessment Clinic's future.
Feel free to visit us at www.sbssg.ca or reply to this e-mail if you have any questions and we'll do our best to answer you.
