When productivity losses due to obesity, including premature death, absenteeism and disability, are added, the total cost of obesity to the Saskatchewan economy is estimated at between $230 million and $260 million a year, equal to 1% of the province's Gross Domestic Product.

• Rates of overweight conferring a "probable health risk" (BMI = >27) have nearly doubled in Saskatchewan, with 35.3% of the province's adults now overweight compared to just 18.7% in 1985.
