Well, I had my first day with the clinic today. It was a little nerve-racking, so my Blood Pressure was a little high when they took it...lol It was a clean, calm, and comfotable environment and met a couple of great people there... Julie from Cupar, who is being assessed the same time as me, and Dave, who's in his 4th month in the program and down 50 lbs! Deciding to have Bariatric Surgery is probably the scariest and best decision I've ever made in my life. I decided I had too much to lose and too many people depend on me. If you're a lurker, just reading posts, that's kewl. If you've posted before, I recommend you do it again. Let's start up a dialogue and see what happens when we work together and support each other. Thanks for reading my little rant...lol Joel

Hi Joel, I tried responding to this note earlier, but it looks like whatever I did, the note did not stay. Anyway, what I said was along these lines.... I've been thinking about you and wondering how yesterday was going? I guess you have a couple more days this week to go?? Is that right? That is awesome about that Dave fellow dropping so much weight. Great job! I guess the pre-op program you have to follow for 6 months...is that correct? What exactly is the process? How long did you have to wait to get in to see someone? Then how long a wiat till your assesment and then how long till you can have surgery??? Thanks for the info and I say...rant away ...it's interesting Marg

Hi Joel! Go ahead and rant away - this site has been very quiet lately. I do not visit very often myself because of that reason. What kind of surgery are you "training" for? I had the LapBand in Mexico in November 2007 and am down 80 lbs. I love my band! I have tried to get the Sask Govm't to pay for it but I lost the battle! Good luck in your journey! Just thought I would drop you a quick note. Elaine Frerichs Annaheim, SK DOB: 09/11/2007

The surgery being performed in Regina is the Laproscopic Roux-en-Y. I think I found a document that might help you, Elaine. Let me find it.

That would be great. I'm going to Dr. Pompa in Tijuana. I'm going down with a group in July. A group is just on their way back today and I have been chatting with a girl that went and I can not wait to hear all about it. Are you in Regina Elaine?? I'm just 30 mins outside of Regina. I won't really be able to talk for a bit tho. We are having company in tomorrow for the week so I'm going to be pretty busy, but if it's ok, I can call you after they leave.... Either way, let me know..k? Thanks Marg

Hi, I was just wondering about some information for this Bariatric Surgery. My mom had it done a couple years ago the first time they started them in Regina. It was successful. Now I am looking into it as I have been over weight since I was 11.. I am 19 now. I have tried diets, exercising, pills, not eating, supplements, and just plainly eating right and nothing ever works. My mom has tried helping me lose weight as well. I lose maybe 5-10 pounds and I get motivated to do it more and I do and I will do it for months but the weight doesn't go, it comes back. Being 19 and overweight would I be eligible for this surgery? I know many things can go wrong. I have depression and I know a lot of it has to do with my body image. I use to be active, always outside, go hiking with my mom and brothers, I played sports, I was always happy, I felt good about myself. Now with this weight on I want to sleep all day, I don't like who I am, no energy or active. So please if someone can answer this honesty and truthfully with no judgment that would be amazing. Thank You.
