Hi my name is ken and for some time i have been looking for a surgeon who could do an operation for me. 2 years ago i applied in medicine hat for a consultaion. After repeatedly contacting them for over a year they still had not even put my file into the computer. Finally i contacted the office and the attendant took my information. She couldnt find my file but told me i wouldnt qualify for the operation because my bmi was 72 and the doctor only did 50 or less. Is it me or dose that seem crazy i fiqured at that bmi i would weigh about 300 lbs. If I was that heavy why would I need the operation? Dose anyone have any information for me as to my options? Thanks

Hello Ken My name is Lorna King. I am an R.N. who had lapband surgery done 4 years ago in Mexico. I frequently hold lapband info seminars for people wanting more info and also do the pre-op and post-op care here in Saskatoon for patients. I am having my next seminar on April 13th in Saskatoon at the library auditorium at Lakewood Civic Centre at 1635 McKercher Drive. at 1:00 p.m. In answer to your question regarding your BMI - I think there has been some mistake. To have a BMI of 72 you would have to be about 700 lbs. What is your weight and height? If you would like to call me - feel free. 306-373-1879. I can answer your questions.

Hi lorna, My wieght is around 510 lbs and hieght is 5 foot 10. the calculator fo bmi I used off the net only went to 456 lbs and still came up as bmi of 63.7. I'm not sure how the total is reached but its still scarey no matter how you look at it. I really thank you for your reply and will think about attending your seminar. My only concern is that lap band is not a reasonable alternative for my size and am looking into gastric bypass with great difficulty in finding information. Again thank you for you response. Ken

Hi Ken There are other safer alternatives than gastric bypass for someone with your BMI. My surgeon does a procedure called sleeve gastrectomy which is stapling the stomach lengthwise removing 80% of the stomach but does not re-route the intestine. You can check it out on www.surgicalbariatric.com or I can send you some info on it. My surgeon will do this procedure for $8500 including hospitalization and ground transportation and hotel. Call me and we can talk more. 306-373-1879

hi ken i am seeing dr farries in red deer, he is awsome and does do the rny gastric bypass on large bmi's, he only takes referrals from ur doctor once a year in may !!! the first monday in may i think. any ways i hope u see ur doctor soon so he can refer u this may, or else u will need to wait till next year. he is a awesome doctor he does expect u to loss a certian amount of weight before he agree to do the surgery as well as u will need to travel to red deer once a month to see him, u are not allowed to miss any appointment, and lastly u have to record all ur food in a journal that he looks at monthly. it is worth it i am from nb and the travel sucks but i have a date for my surgery !!! good luck julie
