I had my surgery in Mexico in 2004 and its been the best thing I've done for myself. I researched the surgeon, his team, and the hospital prior to having surgery. I was completely satisfied with the surgery and aftercare. And the cost was affordable, whi*****luded 2 nights in hospital, 2 nights in hotel and transportation to and from the airport by hospital staff. I had my fills done by the surgeon 3 times and then learned to do it myself. I have also done fills on another patient here in Saskatoon. If you're interested in hearing more about my surgery, aftercare, or if you would like me to fill your band, contact me @ [email protected]

Lap Band on 06/29/07 with
I am researching different options for the Lap Band procedure. My husband is very concerned about going to Mexico for surgery. Could you tell me where you had your surgery done? And how safe did you feel? Thank you Rhonda [email protected]

Hi Rhonda, I had my surgery done with Dr. Kuri in Tijuana. There are a number of good doctors in Mexico but I believe that Dr. Ortiz and Dr. Kuri are considered the top two best surgeons. Anyone who has had surgery in Mexico will tell you that it is completely safe and that the hospital and facilities are BETTER than any here in Canada or the US. I would recommend that you join some bandster groups on Yahoo groups such as bandsters, canadianlapbanders, mexicanlapbanders and fully inform yourself. Dr. Kuri also has his own group on Yahoo groups which you can join if you are considering surgery with him. Dr. Kuri's website currently has a special of $7500 - he usually charges close to $9000. There are other doctors who charge $6500 - $7000 but some are not as reputable and given the slight price difference I chose to go with one of the best. However, most people will tell you that they were thrilled with their choice of doctors so research your options well. The main thing is to ensure that you have a doctor or RN near where you live to do your fills following surgery. Hope this helps. MC

Hi Lorna, (or anyone else)

I am from Saskatoon and wanting to have the surgery done in the Phoenix area as I am a snow bird.  I am glad to find out that you can do the fills.

I am worried that I am 57 years old and my not qualify for the surgery due to my age.

Do you know anyone from Saskatoon who has had this surgery down here recently?

Any info will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Sue.
